Very disappointed that Jhye is not in the squad.... and with Cummins rested thought Jhye would be first picked

Thinking something might be going on behind the scenes ..I believe he is fit

Marsh at three provides power and a bowling option

For me with Smith and Labs we can only have one in the team. Both players are very similar and lack the power hitting that is required in the white ball format. I would go Smith at 4

Smith at 4 and the power hitters can bat around him

Also do not discount Green ...perfect opportunity for him to go up the order to the number 4 position

With the World Cup 2023 in ODI in India next year, will Australia give a trial run for possibly playing 2 spinners in one of the games (maybe the 3rd game ) if the series is over?
They might even start the series with 2 spinners and have marsh green provide the cover

Zamps Agar are locks for India with Maxi providing the backup

I have no idea what the pitches in Townsville are like, and Cairns in QLD (when they play NZ) straight after.

Should be a chance to give the players a chance either way and we should a fair bit of rotations of players to get an eye on form .

Yeah I would like to see the selectors rotate the players for these series

Its a chance to experiment with an eye on the world cup

the pecking order for Spin in the short format is:

Zampa> Agar> Swepson

Lyon I rate a bit better than Swepson but he doesnt have as good all round ability with bat, bowl and field compared to those other 3.

Wouldnt be surprised they brought 3 specialist spinners to India

Nah they will only play two...Zamps Agar Maxi with the backup

swepson maybe in the squad but not three in the same team

Personally think in India you need a 3rd specialist spinner in the squad. Agree you cant play more than 2 specialist spinners in a team.

Marsh at 3 in T20's yes, not in ODIs. Need Smith to face most amount of balls possible, with hitters down the order

Australian XI for first ODI vs Zimbabwe

Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Steve Smith, Alex Carey (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

no room for Marnus

Either Smith or marnus not both....good to see

Hopefully the batting order is not like that I would much prefer

Finch
Warner
Marsh
Smith
Maxwell
Stoinis
carey

and yes why green is batting eight is beyond me...scores hundred for WA in odi format batting four

perfect opportunity for him to bat up the order...just a waste

Would rather have Agar batting eight ...and marsh and maxi proving the fifth bowling option

Issue for me with Finch Warner Smith...batting 1 2.3 is the lack of power ...plodders...and then carey at four ..umm nah

Warner is not the same warner he was years ago...still good in the odi format but if he scores a hundred or a 50 its basically a strike rate of 90/100...a 100 off 100 balls....its good but these days you need power....100 off 70/80 is what we should be looking at

Finch the same...gone is the big scores goes at a run a ball

Smith the same ....much prefer him at four to bat through the middle orders and hitters bat around him

if we bat first we should be looking at 330 minimum
