Also a lot of people would have subscribed to Foxtel/Kayo so they could watch the ODIs and T20s that aren't shown on FTA anymore, now there won't be the ODIs and T20s that NZ were going to play here so people aren't getting the matches that they paid to watch.
We'll just tell the broadcasters and the customers they'll just have to deal with it. /s

given that nz odi series has been postponed / cancelled, and sri lanka are probably going to do so too, surely it's time for a variation on oztraya vs oztraya a

do it like the women's ashes series - 1 test, 3 odis, 3 t20s

do a draft and turn it into a tv event - cummins' team vs smith's team - like the nba all stars thingy

draft a squad of 17 to play the test, 3x odis, 3x t20s

would be so good

i may, ahem, have already conducted two drafts with two other cricket-obsessed nuffies to theorise this out...

Concept sounds good, I would be interested to see your proposed two teams for this hypothetical tournament...

For the ODI world cup?

Whatever money that does happen to go to grass roots, where do you think it comes from?

What test country nowadays has their regular test players play often for their domestic first class team?

The Shield isn't starting again until early February while the 1st test in Karachi starts early March. The test regulars were never going to play that much shield to begin with.

Is that including the 3 we are going to miss this summer?
2. Why not, similar skills needed for bowling, fielding and batting. Much more similar to ODI than Tests.
3. I know where the money comes from, not that there is much.
4. Australia does. Only Cummins, David Warner and Steve Smith are rarely available for Shield cricket. The rest are regulars.
5. The more games they play the better it is for all the players and selectors.
6. If you want to count those games it would have been 20.

Ripper idea, it would be so much fun.

You've got to show us the results of your mock draft!

Why do we need more? Let them play Shield cricket we have 10 tests in the sub continent these players should either be having a rest (Green, Cummins, Starc) or playing these games.

Would be nice to have some of our international stars playing shield cricket.

I do like that nostalgia of an Aus v AusA series though.
Could we play a 3 match series over a one week period? Gives that next group of guys a chance to test themselves whilst the guys at the next level an opportunity to play shield cricket

If we must play it over 3 days.

They should be very thankful. Series was going to be poor, and I'm popping the champagne we need more red ball cricket. The LAST thing we need is our blokes going to the sub continent on zero red ball form and they wonder why it fails. Players need to be playing long form cricket. We should send NZ a whole box of champagne as a thank you gift!
The NZ series wouldn't have hampered our preparations at all. Half of our ODI team against NZ would be comprised of white ball specialists. And most of the Test players who'd miss out on the Shield to play in the ODIs are coming off a 5 match Test series anyway with plenty of red ball cricket played.

More shield and or long form cricket the better.

Are people seriously arguing that international-level cricket for the summer should be finished by mid-January?

I think sending test quality crickeers back to playing shield games at Karen Rolten oval for the rest of the summer is a terrible idea.

A game or so for the development of younger players? Sure. No international-level short form cricket at all? No thanks.

We have way more important test series’ coming up frankly. They need red ball form

What possible comparison does playing a shield game at North Sydney oval have to our test team playing in Karachi?

Zero international cricket after January 16 is insane.

Red ball form is better than white ball form going into that series.

Bilateral white ball cricket has been hammered to death. Most people don’t care for it anymore.
