    Australian XI
    David Warner
    Matt Renshaw
    Usman Khawaja
    Steve Smith*
    Pete Handscomb
    Hilton Cartwright (debut)
    Matthew Wade+
    Mitchell Starc
    Steven O'Keefe
    Josh Hazlewood
    Nathan Lyon

    Pakistan XI
    Azhar Ali
    Sharjeel Khan (debut)
    Babar Azam
    Younus Khan
    Misbah-ul-Haq*
    Asad Shafiq
    Sarfraz Ahmed+
    Mohammad Amir
    Wahab Riaz
    Yasir Shah
    Imran Khan

Be interesting selection discussions for both sides. Australia have already forced one change with the axing of Nic Maddinson. It seems likely to go one of two ways. Agar at 6, whilst retaining the 3 quicks, or Cartwright and O'Keefe come in and one of the pace trio (likely Starc) has a breather

Pakistan will surely bring in one of the left arm spinners, likely for Sohail Khan. Mohammad Nawaz would also lengthen a brittle batting order, but the other option is the 18-year-old Mohammad Asghar. Sami Aslam may make way at the top of the order for Sharjeel Khan

Forecast looks a little grim. Won't be as bad as last year but showers expected every day - could be some frustrating delays.

Annoying that they are starting on a Tuesday, mine and many others first day back at work. If it goes to a 5th day only the final day will be a non-working day. I understand they don't want to start any earlier than the 3rd as the players need the rest after the Boxing day test. But why not hold it back till the Thursday like most tests so that day 3/4 fall on a Saturday or Sunday.

I wish the NY Test started on the 2nd, rather than the 3rd.

I'm fully expecting Starc to get a rest, and Hazlewood to miss at least 3 ODIs

Not happy with it but let's see how they go, Agar should have been picked imo

but this time we have a batting allrounder, not a bowling all rounder in the team. so it may actually work out

Agreed. Hope they go straight back to him as soon as 3 quicks are required, not **** him around like last time.

This season he's averaging 37 with the bat and has taken four wickets for a lot this season. His career FC bowling average is 42.

If he's the answer, we're asking the wrong question. Again.

James Faulkner would have been the best option from a bad lot. At least he has experience!

like Marsh, a bowling all rounder

you almost could have played Agar at 6 and kept Bird in the team, better bowling outfit then

The losses to South Africa seemed to have faded from memory quickly. We need a batsman at six.

What the **** is this XI.

Why are we messing around so much with a clearly happy and winning side. Bird is ridiculously stiff. We're not playing on the subcontinent ffs why do we need two spinners.

Next year it's starting on Thursday the 4th.

It shifted to the 3rd in 2009 as the ICC decided only 2 days break between Tests wasn't enough for the players.
