I did the calculations a few seasons back but more than a third of all shield games played that season were played by someone from NSW.

Smith actually didn't smash the door down. He appeared to be a better player in shield cricket but in his season before his return he only averaged 37 without a century.
But he had become a consistent player.
You can't say whether someone would have made it on the back of one test on a bowler's wicket either eg: Callum Ferguson.
And Moises was stitched up against Sri Lanka last year. He's had about 4 tests over about 4 years is it? And all of them in the Sub-continent.
Imagine if Khawaja's first four tests had been in the sub-continent. We might never have heard about him again.

If a NSW player gets picked for tests its favouritism....if any other state...its deserved on merit.....
NSW has been a veritable cricket factory for decades.....other states just can't accept NSW cricket is light years ahead... Especially Victorians who have told themselves they are the king of every sport known to man and anyone who is actually doing it better is acheat or the subject of cronieism...massive chip on shoulder down here in Vic.
They still can't accept hodge didn't play more tests because he put himself before the team on and off the field and none wanted to play with him....never mind there was none deserving of being dropped for the smug wanchor.

Cummins will never play another test match. I'd be surprised if he plays anything longer than a 50-over game.

Did you see where he got those wickets, I remember at least 2 of them caught on the boundary with England going the tonk.
The issue for Faulkner is Mitch Marsh is a better version if we want a so called 'bowling all rounder'. Neither can bat in the top 6. We don't have Gilchrist at 7 where we could shift our keeper up. They have gone for a batsman who is a handy relief bowler in Cartwright. Different type of all rounder.

The Lure of a All Rounder will always be returned to. A 5th Bowler produces far better output than you get from a 6th batsmen.
