I'd say this would be something approximating their best T20I squad at the moment, with everyone fit and available:

Niroshan Dickwella
Upul Tharanga
Angelo Mathews (C)
Dinesh Chandimal (+)
Asela Gunaratne
Chamara Kapugedera
Thisara Perera
Dhananjaya de Silva
Nuwan Kulasekara
Lasith Malinga
Lakshan Sandakan

Sandun Weerakkody
Milinda Siriwardana
Dasun Shanaka
Binura Fernando
Thisara Perara is fit and firing but hasn't performed for Sri Lanka in ages. In fact he's playing in Pakistan atm and played BBL while SL were in SA. Also Kapugedera shouldn't be in the best side. Kusal Perara or even Gunathelika should be some where there.

Agree on Thisara, has been a while since h's produced anything near to what he has shown himself to be capable of in the past.

But the value of Kapugedera shone through again last night. Skilled, experienced and calm headed - exactly what gets you home in those close ones. But what an awesome knock by Gunaratne :thumbsu:

Very pleasing to see Richardson impress on his debut too.

That was the coldest game of cricket I've ever been to by a country mile.
It was freezing cold.

The powers that be have a lot of work to do if they ever want to get a BBL franchise.
The sound system was so inaudible they needn't have bothered speaking.
The new stand looks good, and that should sort out some of the visual / scoreboard issues the ground also has.

I think I've concluded that I just don't care enough about T20 cricket to go to a game. I enjoy watching it on TV where I can also be doing other things, but that's about the extent of it. One other thing that was a slight irritation, the SL "fans" and their trumpets. These guys weren't even watching the game, 2-3hrs of constant noise in front of you is a bit much. Sit down for 10 minutes and appreciate what's happening on the ground please?

People don't go to T20 to watch the game. All it is to most watchers is a chance to make noise and be pains in the arse. You want to sit and watch cricket? Go to Test matches. You don't need artificial atmosphere to make the game interesting.

Posts are spot on,the game creates the atmosphere not some two bit DJ ,its bad enough we get to listen to Brereton like dribble between balls without having to stick up with that crap on top of it.
Once again its a case of some desk jockey jerk telling us poor brain dead punters what we need, want and watch for the sake of OUR entertainment.

RE T20 Captaincy, surely Baillie would have been a better option than Finch, atleast we would have been 2 zip up.

They've tried to create a basketball-like atmosphere which I don't think the game needs. The product is good enough without all all the off-field interference.

The Adelaide Oval match is the first time I've ever bought a ticket for an international T20. I don't think I will be buying another one any time soon given the lack of interest from Cricket Australia (and the touring parties). Still love the twists and turns in the ODIs and getting to see the majority of our best players.

You seem to care a lot more about this series than CA.
It's probably cause I'm Sri Lankan and after getting our assholes riped apart from the saffas, it's good get a win.

Also as someone who enjoys all forms of cricket(test cricket is my favourite), I'm sick of traditionalist discounting T20 cricket.

Must be frustrating then seeing a good performance by your team undermined by the fact that they weren't given the respect of playing against the national team.

That's not a knock on SL by the way.

I follow Australian cricket pretty closely but even with a full sqaud available, you would think that a few of better players would have been rested during the series. Warner, Smith and Starc probably wouldnt have played the full series while maxi and Marsh would have and would probably made a significant impact. This happens all the time and I'm pretty certain that SA did the same and smashed SL.

What I get from this selection and planning is that CA want two different teams for the longer formats and t20. I personally don't mind the idea but imo they got the selections of the side wrong.

I'm a scorchers fan and I haven't been that impressed by the this season. Also Abbott would have been a better selection than both Richardson and stanleke. TBf on Richardson he did bowl well.

we just don't have enough players who are explosive enough to score with a 180-200 strike rate. Maxwell is about it.

Doesn't help that Finch has barely scored a run lately for Australia. He's explosive when he gets going.

Middle order is a huge issue.

Yep.
And obviously the scheduling is a bit of an issue on this occasion with the tour of India but even at full strength, we struggle in T20.
Sort of always got the feeling we don't care much. That's how it looks anyway

Henriques had bowled well after 3 overs but part-time bowlers do not get 4 overs in t20's, even if they are bowling well. The thought has always been you can get away with one over, maybe two. More than that you are stretching your luck. And the 19th over was not a good one to give a part-timer. Batsmen, especially when they have to, will be throwing caution to the wind at that time and a part-timer is simply not equipped to control unorthodox batting. They can bowl and tie the batsman down when they have to be careful in the middle overs, especially when wickets have been lost but protecting the slog at the end is not what they should be relied on for. Tye and Richardson should have bowled out, even 14 from the second last over would have meant Australia would have won.

Think we have a lot of batters best suited to when the field is up. It's also the easiest time to bat so these players tend to perform the best statistically hence the selection but when you cram them all into the same lineup you lose the balance.

But the bigger issue is bowling. Most successful BBL teams have 2 spinners and we refuse to play even 1. This overreliance on pace bowling is becoming ingrained in the Australian system & it's no coincidence we can't play anywhere it turns & we struggle in T20 comps.

Specialist T20 coach & selectors is probably the path to take if you actually want to be good at it.
