What would Hodge be like? Genuinely don't know.

Katich and Gillespie will be good for the Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne tests.

Blewett is inoffensive enough although don't think he adds too much.
Blewett is a better addition than McGrath, I think, not totally boring

Hodge I don’t think has done much commentary? Although he seems like he could have some decent insights from when they’ve had the player mic on him during the BBL coverage

Allison Mitchell is a great pickup. Lane’s good too.

Reckon that both 7 and Fox have put together good teams to this stage. I wonder which Indian commentators will come out for each this year. Probably Sourav Ganguly will be one

Haha for a minute I thought it was Luke Hodge and I was very, very confused.

So to summarise, Channel 7 seem to have:

Ricky Ponting
Glenn McGrath
Damien Fleming
Michael Slater
Allison Mitchell
James Brayshaw
Tim Lane
Greg Blewett
Lisa Sthalekar
Jason Gillespie (Adelaide Test)
Simon Katich (Melbourne & Sydney)
Brad Hodge (T20s)
Mel McLaughlin (Hosting)
Abbey Gelmi (Hosting)
Bruce McAvaney (Interviews & Features Sydney & Melbourne Tests)

They have gone relatively young with their former players with essentially all of them from the same era.

Compared to Fox Sports (I collated this a couple months ago, not sure if they've signed anyone else since):

Fox Sports

Shane Warne
Adam Gilchrist
Mark Waugh
Mike Hussey
Michael Vaughan
Isa Guha
Allan Border
Mel Jones
Brendon Julian

Wonder if Katich and Nannes can still work for ABC Radio. If not, they are well and truly stuffed.

I mean Chappell was doing Macquarie and 9 for a period and I think Triple M may have had a couple of Nine people too, so it's possible.

If not though....massive trouble. No Whately, Maxwell getting on, and Mitchell also going to 7 as well.

FTR no mention of Nannes other than one original tweet, not in the confirmed lineup

IMO Katich is safe to ABC anyway, only contracted for two tests to 7 it seems

Wonder if this means 7 can get Tim Lane over to footy

That would be a GREAT addition
You'd think that'd have to be a possibility now.

The only worrisome scenario re cricket now is Brayshaw + Fleming + Slater commentating at the same time. Everyone else in the lineup appears to have the ability not to talk rubbish all day and with Lane and Mitchell you're getting 2/3 play by play callers who will keep Fleming and Slater in check.

When McGrath and Slater signed it looked like FTA cricket was going to be a bit underwhelming but credit where credit's due; 7 have made some exceptional signings today.

Indians are too ethnic for Seven. They'll do a Nine and only have commentators from the white people countries.

Credit where it’s due, given how terrible they are in every other sport they broadcast I thought it would be a disaster and no better then 9, but so far 7 has done well with the team they’ve assembled, even Slater should be fine bring away from the channel 9 boys club.

Slater and Warne the only ones from 9 to be picked up (JB too, loosely). Speaks volumes.
If Clarke or Healy got a gig I would have been flabbergasted, Tubbs or Chapelli would have even shocked me

Funnily enough, doesn’t surprise me to see Slats still on a network (even though he’s not great). Was never going to happen, but I also would’ve liked to see Nicholas still around

They’ve said today on an SEN interview there will be a commentator from India and Sri Lanka on their coverage of the respective test series.

Who will do play by play for Fox?
Honestly not sure they'll even have one, Seven having specialised play-by-play comms is pretty rare amongst television networks. If they do though, I think Guha, Julian and Gilchrist would be the frontrunners.

Fox Sports have to do their own production for T20Is and ODIs (and BBL).
