The Backstory
The Year is 1985 and the VFL wants to expand interstate but the Football Boards in all states refuse to enter unless the soon to be dubbed ''AFL Competition" was balanced enough to truly showcase each states talent. Talks continue but the VFL doesn't want to budge and the SANFL and WAFL want traditional VFL teams to merge and when all Proposals never seem 100% agreeable a group of businessmen offer the Victorian Clubs to large amounts of money to merge and enter a new competition.
These clubs take this offer happily and their former debts are no more and the AFL is starting to take shape. By this point the year is 1986 and the VFL is still running while the clubs are preparing to merge, though some clubs went interstate and relocated such as South Melbourne who went north and became the Sydney Swans, North Melbourne went further north to the Gold Coast, Footscray became the Western Sydney Wolves and Melbourne and Hawthorn travelled to the red dirt of the Northern Territory.
The League
The League will Consist of 16 teams when complete
3 from Victoria
3 from Western Australia
3 from South Australia
3 from New South Wales/ACT
2 from Queensland
1 from Tasmania
1 from the Northern Territory
The League would go on and launch with 8 teams in 1990 and slowly expand to the full 16 by 2000
This is the preparation for the new millennium, this is AFL a 2000 Vision

Magpies Presentation.png

First up is one of the most successful Australian football teams of all time the Port Adelaide Magpies. Port entered the AFL as a foundation team in 1990 and have been quite successful since, making the finals 7 out of 10 years and winning 2 premierships in 1991 and 1995. Port have a strong team and look to stay dominant for a while after dropping out of the finals 2 years running and climbing the ladder to reach the 1999 Grand Final and forcing a draw against traditional Rivals Norwood-Sturt. Port Adelaide became and easy choice for the board to grant an AFL licence due to their massive success in the SANFL. Port were a foundation team entering in 1990 and due to Collingwood merging kept there historical wharf pylons jumper while adding a innovative new away jumper.

Swans Presentation.png

In 1987 South Melbourne Finalised a relocation to Sydney just in time for the AFL competition in 1990. In late 1989 St Kilda were struggling to find a way to enter the new AFL and after proposing to go to Tasmania the board approached Sydney to propose a merger. After many long months of back and fourth St Kilda and Sydney agreed on a deal to merge. From 1990 the Swans went on to have some early success making the finals most years and gaining the biggest prize in 1994. In the years leading up to 1999 Sydney struggled but look to bounce back and remake the finals in the 2000 season. The home jumper is a tke on the South Melbourne V mixed with St Kilda's Black, while the away is a part of Sydney to be brought while travelling.

Considering the Bloods were sometimes nicknamed the "Bloodstained Angels", was there an idea to use Angels to honour both Saints and the history of the Bloods?

Love the home, it looks now like a modern crusader 😊

I wasn't actually aware they were called the Bloodstained Angels looking back that would have been a great idea

Melbourne Presentation.png

Melbourne keeps the tradition of the oldest Australian football club alive. Melbourne takes the MCG and remains of The Demons, Blues, Magpies and Lions. After gaining many high quality players from big Victorian clubs, Melbourne had much success making the finals consecutively from 1991-1998 and became the first ever back to back premiers in 1996 and 1997.

Breakers Presentation.png

The Sunshine State adds the Breakers as one of the 4 first expansion teams. The breakers stayed consistent through the decade, in 1993 came miraculously of the wooden spoon to become premiers. Brisbane takes the classic Queensland maroon and a staple Nike design to go with 6 consecutive top 4 finishes.
