Media Release from the Australian Football Media Association

The Australian Football Media Association is pleased to announce the members of the 2021 committee and the date for the 2021 Awards presentation.

A new look team has been formalised with Damian Barrett announced as new Chairperson of the AFMA after a unanimous vote from the committee.

Joining Barrett on the committee are National Sports Editor Newscorp, Matt Kitchin, General Manager Fox Footy, Michael Neill, The Age's Greg Baum and long-time association event manager and administrator Sophie Maguire.

New additions to the team for 2021 include the ABC’s Catherine Murphy, Sarah Olle whose diverse portfolio includes AFLW coverage on Fox Footy, AFL on Triple M and Fox Sports News and highly respected Herald Sun journalist Glenn McFarlane.

Jude Donnelly has retired from the committee after many dedicated years of service with her work to will be formally acknowledged at the 2021 awards ceremony.

Barrett, chief football correspondent at AFL Media, has worked in sports media for 30 years, 20 with News Limited publications. He has long-term involvements with football programs on Triple M and Channel 9.

The new committee will seek to both fully respect past traditions and embrace the ever-changing new landscape in determining how best to acknowledge the many people who perform outstanding work in football media.

The 2021 Awards categories and criteria will be finalised soon, with a major event to acknowledge winners to be held in Melbourne on Tuesday September 14. Event details will be announced shortly.
