If you didn't vote, you only have yourself to blame. Honestly Matt and Nat were the best two talents, marginally in front of Carl and Ben. And 3 of those 4 were the top 4 in this years Idol!

What talents? Singing? I reckon there we clearly better singers then some of those...Tarasai and Jacob in particular.

If I hear Kyle refer to them as true artists again because they look and sound great, I'll puke

Let's be honest people pretty boy Matt is not that good. And his version of Bittersweet Symphony.... disgrace!

Nothing against Matt, but you just don't believe a 16 yo singing about the bittersweet symphony of life. I mean how the hell does he know about life at 16.

Rubbish. In the end Jacob was very ordinary in most performances, ditto Tarrassi (yes she did ONE great performance, but so did all of the top 3 and more regularly as well). Not to mention that Tarrassi did not appeal to Idol, as she was screaming half the time, not to mention whether you agree or disagree with it, but she came across as extremely "fake" half the time. And that was not just me, quite a few people got that when we saw her sing. Not to mention her lack of personality. There is more to singing than just singing alone. You need to be able to conduct interviews and to be honest Tarrassi REALLY struggled with answering questions most weeks. And when they TRIED to get some answers she goes off like a 12 year old girl!

Matt and Nat are true artists in the sense that unlike a few others they write songs themselves. Shows some versatility to be honest. Plus both are versatile in a few genres.

Australia got it right though, Nat is probally more ready than Matt was to cope with the pressure of winning!

Disagree, I didn't mind his version. But that said the winners single is a horrible song and that was the one I thought he did poorly. That said if you check his myspace site he has his version of that song (that for some dumb reason they refused to allow his to sing it), and that version was 100 times better than the one he sang!

yet they sold out their artistic integrity to sing karaoke on a commercial show

Also, from what I've heard of their originals, there are many Australian artists who are much much better but less known. They are average at best.

To list just a few; Clare Bowditch, Sarah Blasko, Sophie Koh, Mia Dyson, Bertie Blackman, Dan Kelly, Josh Pyke, Old Man River etc etc

They will also never attain credibility or a loyal fan base due to appearing on Idol and not doing the "hard yards"

They took the easy option to cash in

Hardly what I'd call true artists but whatever floats your boat...

Versatility is also the most overrated aspect in music. It's totally irrelevant. Every Foo Fighters song is the same, as is Powderfingers, as is Jack Johnson's or John Butler's etc etc

Doesn't stop them being some of the world's and Australia's biggest artists

So becuase they took advantage of a reality TV show they should be banished..just becuase your favourite Tarrassi was a fruitloop and no-one could believe the act she put on, doesn't mean you should be taking it out on others. If you were offered a 1million carrot to cash in, you would too, and saying otherwise is silly to say the least!

That in itself compromises your artistic integrity

I never said anything about being banished. I stated reality and put forth an argument to separate the words "true artists" from Australian Idol contestants.

as for Tarasai my favourite? Where did you pull that from?

I never voted once during the show.

I though Tarasai had one of the best natural voices but as you said, she's a nutcase.

I don't think I had a favourite. Jacob had a very good rock voice but was let down by not adapting to the conditions - I think I liked him the most

But I'm certainly not bitter, nor happy, about who won or lost

Disagree. Nowadays, reality TV shows bring out a lot of musicians, and in a sense to win a contest such as Idol you need to be diverse. That shows a bit of being a artist if you ask me. Whether they are a true artist so to speak is hard to tell. In this years group, I'd say no. But in 2006 there are a lot of true artists! I actually didn't mind Jacob, that said Idol was never going to work for him.

Totally agree that diversity is overrated. Nobody asks Elton John to sing metal or Thom Yorke to sing country to prove that they are great artists. They should disband the themes and just get the contestants to do what they're good at.

It probably wouldn't work out. Either that, or anyone that pigeon holes themselves singing only metal, country, jazz or blues is obviously not going to win Idol. The only songs that i've heard from Idol winners has been generic pop crap or soft **** rock designed to sell records. Would someone singing some of the genres i mentioned above win Idol? No chance.

Good point Gun Barrel.

I've been listening to Fleetwood Mac lately, and it only reinforced how bad the generic idol singles are.

Probably had 100 focus groups found the song 'not bad, and accessible'. Don't actually want to make music that says anything incase it turns away a certain demographic.

Guess thats the nature of the beast though, they've already got 100,000 copies of a CD sold before its even released, there's more to lose than win really.
