In all seriousness, people talking about the number of genuine bats in the side include Finch as one of that number. I think that's a stretch - he's a one trick pony that in the current day and age has it all in his favour, but it's generous to describe him as a genuine bat. It would appear that our chances hinge on not having to venture to NZ for a semi final. If we do I hope we have a few more genuine bats in the side.

Unfortunately after that dopey Pom dropped him on zero in the first game he is now locked into the side for the rest of the tournament.

We can bag him but I don't care how he makes runs as long as he does. He does average over 50 for the year. A slogger yes, a guy with no defence yes, but he is in our best ODI side- we can afford a bloke who is hit and miss if we have blokes like Faulkner/Haddin/Johnson all the way down to 9.

Wouldn't have made a difference. He'd still be in the team. Bailey was in poor form as is Watson.
People seem to be forgetting that....if you want to get rid of Finch......shudders...shudders more...Watson is back in...or the Tasmanian bloke who struggled against England...yes England!

His record over the last year is excellent, whilst I'm not a fan, I can't begrudge him his place, however, playing all rounders or sloggers is fraught with danger.

Doubt it was in any serious danger anyway, non Warner.

Australia always likes to drop batsmen after a loss and almost never after a win, so I guess if we lost 2 in a row maybe one of them would have been shipped off.

point being? Steve Waugh was famously dropped in the world cup. Sure there'd be other examples too!

He has a flaw, not arguing that at all. Facts are he scores in spite of that flaw.
Exactly. I swear if I got a dollar for every time someone said 'but he was dropped on X'...I'd be a dead set millionaire. I don't care how a batsman gets runs or how a bowler gets wickets. What matters is what is in the scoreboard.

Almost clichéd saying at my club "score book doesn't say how you got them, only how many of them"

The point is it's a very fine line, Warner and Smith both almost chopped on early yesterday.
So they didn't get out, thanks for the description. ABDV was almost out in his 160 odd early....you going to discredit that one too? Every batsman gets a bit of luck, especially more so when you are in form.

I saw AB get dropped a further 2-3 times during that innings. Hit it hard and it's harder to catch.

He's lauded a freak (and rightfully so) yet Finch is just lucky. He slogs yes, but he can and does play proper cricket shots too.

Brian Lara got dropped on 18 during his innings of 501, lucky as well.

When he actually moves his feet Finch looks 10 times the batsman than he usually is. He is better than a slogging hack. He actually drives very well thought the covers.
