Although the Women's Final was a mauling, I would have more respect for them if they played best-of-5. I mean, would it kill them to at least play best-of-5 in the final?

Women's sport

Hmmmm sounds like the gravitational pull Williams' backside exhibits meant the balls were drawn to her all the time, hard to lose when it's like that.;)

Correct. Absolute joke really that someone who is unfit and overweight and has barely played for 12 months can beat the No.1 in the Final of a Slam by dropping only 3 games. Total farce.

Or its just that Serena is that much better then the rest of the world.
Don't you consider yourself a bit of a tennis buff. Remember how much Serena dominated back in the day, all she needs to do is apply herself and she is the best player by heaps

Womens Tennis from my point of view is more entertaining than Mens tennis for a number of reasons. The obvious one and the rallies actually last longer than 2 or 3 shots.
You just don't get to see classy Tennis on every point like Hingis/Mauresmo in the mens game with the power/racquets they have.

Totally disagree. Women's tennis is notorious for being too predictable- fewer winners and more unforced errors. I'd much rather see a player execute a precision down the line winner, or killer volley and the rally only last four or five shots, than predictable shots that last twice as long and generally result in an unforced error. Women's tennis is often simply a game of who is more consistent. Men's tennis is a game of who is the better shotmaker, and overall tennis player.

Men's tennis>Women's tennis.

As much as i appreciate watching the Mens game it doesn't hold a candle to a good Womens match between two good players.
For example this AO, Fed v Roddick was a yawnfest.

WOW use one example from the whole open, good work.

Ok, lets do this.

Williams v Sharapova was a borefest and it was the final.

Fair enough, each to their own, but I would say this. I can think of at least ten classic men's matches, before I could think of even one Women's match nearly as entertaining. A good Women's match just isn't as chair-gripping as a good Men's match.

Oh, and Fed vs A-Rod wasnt nearly as bad as Gruntapova vs. The Arse. Come on mate, surely you'd agree with me on that one?
:D:D:D

Serena against sharapova was probably the highest quality and most dominant performance by a Womens player ever, it certainly wasn't boring from my point of view and it wasn't the 1.40 favourite romping it in either.

I'll remember it for a long time and i'm sure everyone who went to the match would agree.

Actually i probably used the wrong example in mentioning Federer because he keeps it interesting.
Any big serving top 20 men against each other really doesn't interest me all that much. I'd rather watch two top 20 Womens players say Vaidisova v golovin, that was a cracking match.

That's not to say i don't like Mens Tennis.
I would just have womens generally slightly ahead because it's not all reliant on the serve and there usually are great rallies all the time.
Depends on the players of course but i would have it 55/45 in favour of womens.

I still remember the whitewash McEnroe gave Lewis at Wimbledon in ? 1983? An absolutely dominant performance from a player at the top of his game

Do you mean Golovin v Peer? That was a cracking match, probably best of the tournament, I was surprised how high quality it was. Peer saved 4 match points and won 8-6 in the third, saved one in a 26 shot rally running all over the court, had no right to win that point.

Anyway tonights final is going to be great I am tipping Federer to win it in the five sets and one thing I think you can bank on happening is there will be some ripping backhand and forehands. I think we will witness some of the best shots you wil ever see by two players in one match

Let's hope Gonzo brings his A-Game or it will be over pretty bloody quickly.
Does anyone know Gonzalez record in finals?

The rallies don't last very long at all, every 2nd or third shot ends up in the net, yep but great viewing though

As someone said earlier, they've been riding on the coat tails of the men for years. Equal money, give me a break

I am against starz as well. I believe watching tennis is for the strong winners, rather than rallies which end up in unforced errors most of the time.

It is a generalisation that women have more unforced errors on percentage, but statistically it would be correct anyway. The power and exexution in mens tennis is awesome. Womens tennis sees too much inconsistency over the net, while men's tennis sees more freqent shots within 20cm over the net.

Yes. Women's tennis is about all power. At the moment all the big hitters are up there and coming through. The smaller hitters or the "thinkers" struggle. Hingis is probably the only exception ... but she isn't really up there with the big guns at the moment. At the moment women's tennis lack varation. Courier summed it up well the other night. In mens tennis people use different slices or spin regularly while in womens tennis it is usually power power power. In a few years like Courier said, I'm sure women's tennis will evolutionize and the variation will be there. If Sharapova adds some variation to her game instead of just hitting flat balls all the time she will become an even better player. Mauresmo is probably one that has the most variation on tour. She doesn't have the power that Williams, Sharapova and other girls posess but she uses different spins, slices and direction of the ball to "unsettle" opponents. It's hard to set a game plan when someone is so unpredictable.

Womens tennis is not classy, it's like baseball - swing swing swing swing errror (or occasional winner)

There's no thought going into the rallies at all, no moving the ball around the court, no smartness. It's just a battle to see who can baseball the ball the hardest and keep it in the court.

What ended up happing with the prize money with women and mens tennis. I remember the women saying they wanted to earn the same as the men, did it end up happening?

Depends on the tournament.

Aus Open I think has equal prize money along with the US Open.

Wimbledon doesn't and not sure about French.
