That post-match interview with the Fed tonight was brilliant. Absolute gold :thumbsu:

He seems like he has loosened up a bit since breaking the grand slam record.

Federer was awesome tonight, just absolutely incredible, Tsonga had no legs but Fed was just hitting winners everywhere.

Should both be good finals, I have no question about the women's final, that'll be good. As for the men's, depends how Murray comes out, if he comes out with a good positive attiude playing aggressiive (not passive) then it should also be a good final.

No way. I thought Murray was a tad lucky that Cilic was so fatigued. Cilic outplayed Murray for the first one and a half sets.

I have a feeling Murray in four for the final.

That's what I was getting it, Federer would have come out swinging early, fully knowing that Cilic wouldn't last long, yet Murray let Cilic win the first set, this doesn't bode well for Murray in the final.

Murray should have destroyed Cilic early, and then he would have won in straight sets, as it was, losing one set was disastrous, but if he starts like he did against Cilic, he will be 2-0 sets down in an hour and a half.

Federer won't be fatigued, he won't make many errors, and he can't be beaten mentally.

Murray to put it simply has to play the match of his life to push Fed to 5 sets, the only way he can win the match is in 5.

the catch with federer is does he have the hunger anymore?

i believe he went down to del potro at flushing meadows because he had a sense of fulfilment after breaking the record

i was discussing how many more slams will he win? a couple more (?)

maybe even no more

we just dont know

A valid question ... if he hadn't made the final or semi finals. People have been hypothesising and commenting on his decline for years. Bottom line, when it matters in the slams he's comes to play and is still the best player on tour, by some margin.

Hunger no doubt is still there... what has dissappeared is the 'fear' his opponents used to hold him in. He is somewhat beatable these days so they see opportunity that they were not seeing prior.

He clearly has the hunger, otherwise he wouldn't of just turned in the best performance so far of the Open.

He wanted it enough to make it this far. :thumbsu:

I believe Delpo won because he was the better player on the day.

But you're right, we can't predict the future. Bring on the final I say!

Can't wait.

<3 Henin, hope she demolishes thunderthighs.

I said personally. The womens match, I could care less about. It wouldn't really have mattered who was in it.

Federer vs Murray should be a good match, but I just don't care about either player, and really don't care who wins. Nothing to do with being a Nadal fan boy, it's just neither match really interests me. :thumbsu:

I agree about the womens stuff. No one will watch and no one will remember who wins. It is just there to fill the gaps between the men's games.

However if you have no interest in a Federer slam final against the real number 2 you simply aren't interested in tennis. It is like a basketball fans saying Jordan in the NBA finals would be take it or leave it, like a cricket fan saying that the chance to see Lillee and Thomson or Bradman would be so so.

Federer is the best stroke player we have ever seen. He isstill near his best. He is playing a very god player in a slam final. f it doesn't turn you on you are not a fan. No shame in that but it is the truth.

what do you mean about real number 2?

do you mean murray is the second best player in the world now based on ability, form etc, or are you talking about ranking etc?

You make a fair point, nadal is lacking confidence, djokovic is yet to grow a penis since the 2008 AO final, and well del potro should be up there this year i would think

He hasn't won here in a couple years though and will be keen to make amends for last year, of course he does.

IMO this yr will be federer's last real chance at securing more grand slams, everyone behind him is catching up, Murray is on the brink and so is del potro, djokovic needs to pull the finger out because he is capable of knocking off federer as well. Nadal will be there if he can get over his injuries and gain some confidence. Think federer would know this so i would expect him to go all out to get some more slams this yr, focus mainly on the grand slams and get himself primed.

I mean form and ability combined. I accept Djokovic is number two and deserves it having earned the points but he is uncomfortable in the trenches and is not reliable. Del Potro has yet to show his US win means much more. Murray has shown admirable cooland has been beating the likes of Federer and Nadal in smaller tournaments. He deserved IMO to be regarded s the closest danger to Federer's No.1 status this year.

People said that everyone was going to catch up to Fed 5 years ago

Gee, these sort of comments shit me. Barring some sort of injury, Federer will be a genuine chance at winning any grand slam for the rest of his career. He is the greatest player ever and rarely has a bad day, especially in the slams, where most of the matches he has lost it has taken his opponent 5 sets to beat him.

you can see federer now compared to a couple of years ago, he is built like a tank

he used to only have muscles in his forearm area (hardest area to built muscle on, and easiest area to get carpal tunnel syndrome in)

hes probably done more work in the weights room to combat against the likes of nadal and del potro

You're not giving Murray enough credit. It's too close to call IMO. Murray's been absolutely outstanding this tournament.
