Pliskova is everything that's wrong with modern women's tennis. Tall, serve, forehand. Can't run, no touch or feel, poor court smarts. Ugh.

Might have a bit to do with those injury problems she seemed to be having, although granted the Pliskova twins don't rank particularly high mobility. And that's somewhat of a generalisation of the WTA currently, it would be like saying the ATP consists almost entirely of pushers/grinders.

If you want to dress like Rafa and buy a replica of the shirt he wears during the tournament you'll be paying $120. I can't remember the prices of other shirts (Federer's is moderately cheaper), but it's cheaper to be an Adidas tennis fan - the shirt Tsonga is wearing now is far cheaper (it's also available in different colours).

Tennis and golf shirts are my main "casual" style shirt so I enjoy wearing them .My favourite was the Adidas design in 2006 as worn by Fernando Gonzalez

Sad to see Baghdatis lose, but Tsonga is my favourite player on the mens side of the draw so I'm very happy.

Good things came in three today.

That wraps up day 1, good day of tennis. The schedule worked out very well, with at least 1 match on all the show courts being competitive, which doesn't happen that often in the first round.
