yes, cause im sure the US Open didnt schedule Agassi's, Sampras or Roddicks last matches on AA.

I was at the French open last year. Federer played on the 2nd major court, while Gael
Monfils played in CC. I wish i saw Fed, but i wasnt that disappointed, cause catching a frenchmens match in france was a great experience .It was also Frances grand slam. i sorted expected a Frenchmen playing.

Hewitt is a 2 time grand slam winner, and a former runner up in this tournament. he played on co.2 in Wimbledon this year. he is still a big name in the world.

we always have this same argument every single year on the aus open. one day i will learn to ignore Parker.
I wasn't comparing. Every major tournament has their choices.

Although considering Australia has one I think we should be grateful and not put Hewitt on just because of his birth certificate. Nobody likes nepotism.

Luckily he won't last past the next round anyway and then everyone can forget about him and talk about the actual chances in the tournament, not someone who has buckleys chance of winning.

I agree. But I don't rate Ferrer at all, and something tells me Hewitt might scrape through and we focus less on the real players

Don't rate Ferrer much but surely he should beat Hewitt at least.

His celebrations are so over the top. I dont remember Sampras or any other retiring player carrying on this, most just retire quietly.

I really don't get your hate for Hewitt.

Sure he came on the scene as a brash young kid, but by now it is clear that his antics were far more through passion and competitiveness rather than arrogance. He loves playing for his country and will fight for every chance he has to win a match. Something that very few of our top Australian players have shown over his career.

What do you want an immature young player that makes mistakes through immaturity to do? You want them to learn from their mistakes, and grow up, while still keeping the personality that makes them succeed.

That is exactly what Hewitt has done. Unfortunately it became cool to put him down, and some people are too blinded by his past to allow themselves to see he has done exactly what was required by him. He more than deserves a chance to show people he has changed a lot from when he began, but some people don't want to do that.

It a little bit like a poster that gets on peoples nerves and rubs them up the wrong way. They could maintain the passion, yet learn from the reception they receive and mature, or they can push on regardless, throw in the towel with whoever they are supporting and act like an immature kid for years to come........

We can only hope that Tomic and Kyrgios have a Hewitt like turnaround and gain some passion to play for Australia. Sadly though, the ones putting them down the most will refuse to see the change because they would rather remain StoneThrowerno1.

What about Federer last night. He won so comfortably and with such ease, but we don't get these comments yesterday.
That's because he plays good, consistent tennis. The crowd knows that its going to get a fantastic show.

In Women's tennis you see the top seeds just play absolute garbage from time to time. Way too often.

Spot on. I was only old enough to understand tennis after he had won his 2 majors, but he always came across as passionate, never arrogant. Someone like Kyrgios is an arrogant prick, however he will improve. I can already see improvements in Tomic's attitude and not surprisingly he's as high a rank as he's ever been.

Hewitt is one of the last genuine Australians to play tennis. I guess it must be tall poppy syndrome - If a guy is showing passion (not arrogance), he should tone it down, however if he doesn't show passion he's boring.
