Last year Rafa lost in the 1st round of the Australian Open to Fernando Verdasco. Verdasco would then go on to lose in the 2nd round, and the person he lost to lost in the 3rd round, and so on until the final.

If Rafa wins this tournament, he would go from 2016's wooden spooner to champion in 12 months.
