Australian Open 2017

Anyone noticed the recent Channel 7 ad for the Open doesnt actually contain the number one player in the world? Gearing up for another Channel 7 Federer fapathon...

A bad oversight really.

I think last year's was this

The year before (which I cannot find) was in stark contrast featured only Kyrgios walking towards the stadium with headphones on with some GTFOSomethingisComing-type music. It was a bit lame.

Is Millman in the singles draw? He has been playing state league for Melville in Perth and they paid him $1000 a match. Probably more than what he gets for playing futures events on the tour. Got a decent crowd watching him too. Have seen Ebden training down my local club too.

He will definitely be in the singles as long as he is fit.

Also disappointed Groth got the WC, would rather have seen it go to an up and coming youngster.

I see Ash Barty also got WCs for Brisbane and the Aus Open.

Here, here. Groth is 29. He won a Las Vegas Challenger. That puts him into consideration but how the hell is loyalty to Davis Cup a factor? How many players could possibly qualify through this criteria?

Instead of Groth who gets it?

De Minaur. He showed some Challenger form late in the season almost like Groth. He is this year's Male Junior of the Year @ the Newcombe Medal Awards. Previous winners have been gifted WC's in the AO that followed e.g. Jasika (2015), Kokkanakis (2014), Kyrgios (2013), Saville (2012), Tomic (2010).

It's only fair that Alex should get one if we are going to keep introducing our young players to pro tennis @ the Grand Slam level.

It's very annoying. Argentine fans are always good value as well. What are people's thoughts on Keys?

Have to love the passion of the Argentine crew.
Keys will be a strong player for many years to come. However she might struggle to win grand slams at the last hurdle. Similar to Halep- high ranking top 5, wins WTA tournaments but doesn't quite reach the ultimate prize of a grand slam victory

I think this will be the 3rd Australian Open in a row that Del Potro has missed

If I had my tin foil hat on, I would suggest that the Del Potro withdrawals smell a bit fishy. As in forced time off kind of fishy. No evidence to back it up and hope and assume I'm wrong, but his comments seem a little strange to me.

A couple of months ago, bought a concession ticket for the daytime session on Rod Laver Arena on the 24th of January; but now I can no longer go, so I need to try and offload it. PM me anyone that wants it - paid $153 for it; will take $100 ONO.
