Copy Paste Wiki. It works wonders

Thought it was time to start a pre-main draw Aus Open Thread. Entry lists are above. still missing 2 WC's on the mens side.

The major men not playing this year are: Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray, Lucas Pouille.
The major girls not playing this year are: Victoria Azarenka, Monica Puig, B.Andreescu

Major Retirements to happen after the open are: Wozniacki

I expect this will be the last year for a lot of players as the Olympics are coming. But none of the big players have said so yet.

Cause this was such a good write up from last year, why not just use it again. Not much would have changed. Hope you don't mind Pepsi.
The first grand slam of the year kicks off in just over a week, plenty to talk about with questions in both the womens and mens side.

www.ausopen.com
www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml

Tickets: Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena (day 1-8) are reserved seating, all other courts are accessible with a ground pass (section behind the court in Melbourne Arena also reserved seating)
https://ausopen.com/tickets#!RLA

Changes:
Deciding sets will no longer be advantage. A super tiebreak will be played at 6-all in the 3rd set for the women and 5th set for the men. First player to 10 points with an advantage of 2 points will be the winner (the less said about this the better)
Electronic review of line calls available on all courts
25-second Serve Clock will be introduced for all matches
Heat policy has changed. It is a 5 level rating system that is difficult to understand or explain!
Smoke Policy is to close the roofs and stop play on the outside courts.

TV and Radio coverage: Channel 9 come will broadcast the tennis and not sure on the full details as to how they will use their digital channels and their online platform. 9Now is the online platform that will most likely be showing courts with TV cameras setup. ABC radio grandstand will broadcast on the radio and the AO will have their radio coverage through the official AO app also.

Qualifying: 128 field draw for both the women and men, with 16 spots up for grabs. Tuesday 14 January – Friday 17 January 2020 (note the change with an earlier start on the Tuesday and earlier finish for the Friday). I recommend anyone with the time to go and watch some of the qualifying tournament. It is free entry and it is a great way to be up close to the action without the big crowds.

Main Draw: The draw ceremony will take place on Thursday the 16th of January at 6pm(I hope). 128 field draw.

Seeding: Top 32 players will be seeded. Seeding of players will be taken directly from the WTA and ATP rankings

I have gone for Novak, course he is Novak in Melbourne. He is not Rafa at the French good, but he is pretty damn close.

And Pliskova for the woman. Surely it is her time. Only just lost last year to Osaka. Kvitova looms large as well.

I can't see Barty winning sadly. I think this is her worse surface overall.

4th rounds will be tougher opponents than the 1/4 final opponents for the top 4 seeds. Berrettini snuck up into the 8th position.

Kyrgios just avoids playing a top 8 seed in the 3rd round.

The Doubles list is out. I don't know why De Minaur is playing, he is teaming up with Hernandez. Top players shouldn't play singles and doubles at a Grand Slam.
Other Australians with direct entry are
Peers with Venus
Guccione and Reid
Millman with Kwon

Obviously a number of wildcards will be given out. Nothing confirmed but I would imagine Hewitt will play with Thompson. Purcell and Saville will get one as well.

Is Peers no longer playing with Kontinen or is he injured?

Hahah I was wondering if Tomic was trying to qualify or if he had just thrown in the towel.

De minaur in doubt due to an abdominal injury.

It was a mistake to play him in the singles and doubles on the same day against team gb.

Think it is more a sick note to get out of playing Adelaide

Don't mind him playing doubles this year. He's not going to suddenly be able to beat the top 3 players over 5 sets this year. He's getting better but he's at least 2 years away.
