Collins superb tonight. Looks locked in and fierce.
Should be a cracking match on Saturday.

If she brings this game. She didn't miss last night. But then again, she received the same ball back from Iga and all the other women she's played.

Barty won't be giving her the same shot with the same speed at chest height all night, like Anisimova, Pegula and Keys found out. Barty and her team will focus on the Danimal's weakness - the backhand wing

Doesnt this happen alot in womens tennis? Im a casual (at best) observer but i have a mate who follows it quite intently and his mantra is never bet on womens tennis as favourites get done all the time.

The womens semis here had the 1 seed, the 7 seed, the 27 seed and an unseeded player. The mens has the 2, 4, 6 and 7 seed (and the 1 seed left before the tournament started).
Yes definetely, the rankings and seedings are a lot less reliable than in the Men's.

E.g. it's common place for Women's Grand Slam semi finals to have multiple unseeded or lower seeded players. Not so in the men's when it's almost always high representation from the top 10.

profound

you would have been one of the kids who wet the bed in high school

now we’ve got the specious nonsense out of the way, you got anything more insightful than ‘something something tall poppy’?

the mere fact you pose such a question implies you think nobody in the top 20 would trouble her, which is… an opinion I suppose, but one delusional enough to mean you are not worth discussing the subject with

quite on form for you though, I suppose

And the mere fact that you can't name them shows how pathetic your argument is.

Women's tennis rankings are a joke. Even moreso with the ability players have to protect their rankings due to Covid.

To my way of thinking you have a clear number one in Barty, who is so far ahead of the chasing pack that she has the only true ranking. And then about 40 players ranked below her who are all somewhat evenly matched. Therefore their rankings mean nothing.

Some guy sad that she hadn't beaten a top 20 player yet. Like that means anything in women's tennis. If anybody genuinely thinks that Keys and Anisimova aren't two of the best of the rest then they are not worth listening to. It's just that the gap between the best and the rest is a canyon.

And those 40 players are up and down based on their menstrual cycle. No joke. It has a big effect on a woman's strength, stamina, speed.

The greats like Steffi and Serena are simply great and able to get by despite this

Even looking at the US Open 2021 to illistrate the post above and my earlier comment,

Men's SF had the 1, 4, 12, 2 seeded players
compared to the Women's SF had a Qualifier, 17, Unseeded and 2.

not sure what more Ash needs to do for you lot. She wins this, she has a Major on Hard, Clay and Grass. She is right now the dominate number 1 woman's tennis player in the world. Not too much more she can do. yet some here still want to criticize.
Agree, it's pretty hard to fluke winning 3 seperate Grand Slams.
The draw always plays a part, but that's for most Slams. Sometimes someone else knocks out your biggest challenger and competition, but Barty has been good enough to not drop games to lesser opponents where plenty of others have.

And its hard for her to beat seeded players when Keys knocked 3 top 11 seeds out and Ash flogged her

Ash has flogged everyone. The closest anyone has got is Animosova who still lost 6-4 6-3, and only broke her once.

I remember in the lead up people talking up Pegula and Keys as very dangerous opponents, between them they took 6 games off Barty compared to her 24....

Betting on women’s tennis is fraught with danger but the odds are always pretty great if you’re selective you can do well.

For the most part there just not consistent

not sure where this stuff that Barty had an easy draw. Sure, if you look at rankings but that is limited. some of her opponents can be or are, better than that. Going to ignore the first 2 rounds, as she is seeded, She should play trash and she did. 3rd round, Giorgi won Montreal last year and can smash any opponent. I think she has a win over Serena in her time. she can also lose to anyone. Animisova beat Osaka, won Melbourne 1, and looks like a top 10 player again. She did, after all, make the French Semi before the death of her father. Pegula is poor for a quarter-final opponent. Keys is a former finalist of the US Open, semi here and won a lead-up event. I have seen way worse runs to the final.

Pegula is pretty decent at the AO, doesn't seem to translate to other Slams.
Made the QF last year beating Svitolina, Azarenka and Mladenovic here who are no mugs.
This year beat Sakkari who has been pretty good recently at Slams.

Barty has only really faced trash so far apart from Keys, will be a massive step up to beat Collins, just not sure she can do it. If she can win 2 slams this year, she defnitely is worthy of staying up as #1 for a long long time.

Anisimova is the second best player in this tournament.

I think Barty 2-1.

She's 42/8 on hard court since the start of 2020, while she can only face who happens to meet her.

Collins is better than some that she's played for sure, but nothing insurmountable and someone Barty should still beat.

They are 3-1 H2H although Collins did beat her in their most recent encounter in Adelaide 2021.

Barty could be drunk or injured or playing with a squash racquet (or all three) and she'll still beat the bunny boiler!

Barty will slice her to death and definitely won't be gifting lollipop serves (ala Swiatek) to Collins's brutal forehand.

Collins is a big hitting emotional front runner, get a break on her serve early and if her head doesn't explode, she'll probably throw a racquet into the crowd and get DQ'd..!
