Another hot day in store, with some interesting matches to look forward to:
Schmieds vs mertens
Wawrinka vs gulbis
Kokkinakis vs daniel
Tsonga vs klizan
Chung vs klahn
Kyrgios vs raonic

Should be good. Very winnable match for Kokkinakis!

Kyrgios v Raonic the obvious standout from that lot. Definitely a 50/50 contest for mine. If Kyrgios is mentally switched on and up for the challenge, I think he's capable of winning in 4. If his head is elsewhere, Raonic will clean up comfortably.

Good list of matches to watch out for by Pepsi. I'd also add Paire v Thiem and Pouille v Kukushkin to that list as well.

“It’s all Lleyton. I’m going to say it honestly — no one likes him anymore,” he said.

“He’s just doing the wrong thing. He’s playing Davis Cup — I thought he was retired. He’s playing all these matches and stuff like this. You know what I mean? He used to hate Tennis Australia. It’s weird. And now he loves them. What’s happened here?

“But I guess he’s using them for other things and resources and … yep. And it’s for his pay cheque, yep.”

Tomic said he and countrymen Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios — who begins his Australian Open campaign on Tuesday night — “don’t want to play (Davis Cup) anymore because he’s ruined the system”.

“Go away,” he said of Hewitt.

“Like, literally. If you’ve retired, why are you still in tennis? He still plays these doubles tournaments and stuff … it’s funny, all these guys that got wildcards and stuff are under a system.”

Tomic said that the likes of Alex Bolt, Jordan Thompson and Marc Polmans — who were awarded wildcards for the grand slam — were “under his wing” in a system that he said proved a “conflict of interest”. Bolty, Polmans, all of these guys — they’re under his wing, so they get a percentage of that. So it’s conflicts of interest. I think it’s terrible.

“They’re all under Lleyton’s wing, under the management company. It’s all a conflict of interest,” he said.

“The more they get, he earns, the main draws, he takes. I think it’s wrong. It’s wrong that he’s using the system of Tennis Australia … and then he’s in Davis Cup and he’s doing the wrong thing and everyone’s leaving — even guys who don’t want to play anymore.

“I hope he can get moved and we can go back to having a good captain.”

Tomic, who has not played Davis Cup since 2016, described Hewitt’s predecessor Wally Masur as a “great captain” while he believed former world No. 1 Hewitt “doesn’t put the players first”.

“He doesn’t put Nick first, he doesn’t put Kokkinakis first. He only thinks of himself,” he blasted.

“You’re not playing, bro. You’re retired. Wally was a great captain and someone that everyone liked. Don’t worry — Lleyton’s legacy and tennis speaks for itself. But what he’s doing now is wrong.”

Tomic said he felt like there was “no point” addressing the issue with Tennis Australia.

“Everyone knows,” he shrugged.

If Tomic played with as much heart as Murray I'd listen to him

But Bernie , shut the **** up
I don't think he's necessarily wrong. But if he's using that as an excuse for his bullshit performances, then that's not good enough.

I think Tomic after this tee off against Hewitt tonight will go down as the biggest ****wit in Australian sport if not all citizens.
He is a bigger dickhead than the league players with the bubbler and dog incidents!!!

I read up tonight where Tomic ****ed Hewit over when he was a teen and Hewitt wanted a practice partner at 1.00pm before his fourth round match in a slam although his father might have been more behind that. Apparently the Spainish players said if a youngsters carried on like that to an equivalent spanish tennis player with a record like Hewitt and established he would be stung up in a tree by his balls!!!

I have to say after he said Kygrios had a few mental demons before their match the other day I knew Tomic was a mental basket case!!! I put money on Cilic tonight because I knew there was no way in hell he could lose to this ******!!!!

I watched the Murray match tonight which was entertaining and even though I had money on Cilic I did not want to watch the Tomic match!!

I actually think Tomic has become irrelevant now after this latest outburst and really is only a comedy source for material on total trash!!!

Saying no one likes him anymore, like OMG, is this ****ing kindergarten???

If Tomic is to be taken serious ever again he needs to play his next grand slam match in a diaper and get disqualified to notify the world he has his finger on the pulse and has left the twilight zone!!

Actually, its time Australian tennis grew up.

Arguably their might be a conflict or perception of conflict from a professional viewpoint that could be looked at from a governance perspective but Tomic's accusations and vitriol went well beyond that!!! If I was Kyrios or Kokkinakis or Hewitt I would be pursuing legal action against Tomic if their where grounds under slander and other damages caused that where not justified!!!

Hewitt won 2 Grand Slams, 2 ATP Tour finals, was a world number 1 for a decent chunk of time, and a heap of tour titles.

Yes, he was (maybe still is) a brat, but he has the results to back it up.

Tomic quit a reality TV show after 5 minutes. I reckon the majority of posters on here would have credibility than Tomic at the moment.

Meanwhile De Minaur had to play two matches in a day to with the Sydney International, then back up 2 days later in Melbourne for a Grand Slam - and won in straight sets.

He has a point about the doubles, thats it.

De Minaur certainly doesn't have a problem with being mentored by Hewitt...........

You can clearly see it's down to work ethic etc, it's why Kygrios and Tomic will never be great, they just don't have the drive of the very top players. They're both lazy players on the court, they aren't as fit as most tour players etc. De Minaur looks like he thrives on work, no surprise he loves Hewitt.

Hewitt, whilst he was a bratt as a youngster, turned it around in his early 20's, through that whole time though, he was never questioned for work ethic and drive.

As for his comments of "letting the best single's players play for Australia", Tomic and Kokkanakis aren't currently anywhere close to contention...Kygrios is the 3rd best on rankings at the moment as well.

It's currently De Minaur and Millman on ATP rankings.

Probably an element of truth to it but it is the cries of someone that has had their own faucet turned off.

Bernie is a long lost cause but TA are in between a rock and a hard place with Kyrgios and Kokkinakkis. They've tipped so much into them and they've gone backwards at an alarming rate.

I think it was fair enough Kokk had to qualify, the flip side of it was that a substandard guy got the WC instead which leaves them open to Bernie tossing a grenade through the window.

Good work, only a couple of changes for me.

I don't think they will have Barty and De Minaur on Melbourne Arena one after each other. I think one will be on MCA. Barty could just about be on RLA.

I'd also guess Millman may get on either MA or MCA ahead of Monfils.

He might want to remember the main reason he has that Ferrari sitting in the driveway is Tennis Australia gave him a free pass to a grand slam main draw and their other ATP tour events from the age of 15.

I agree with the above comments. I think Tomic has a point about the doubles, Hewitt can play for as long as he wants but this is at least the the third in a row that he has recieved wildcards for the Doubles. I have no problem him playing but I think he has to earn entry if he is serious.

I also think Hewitt needs to be all in on De Minaur or Davis Cup but not both. With the Davis Cup role I think he has to spread himself around a bit.

I think Tennis Australia decided last year to not bother with Tomic and I think they have also moved on from Kyrgios and Kokkinakis to a degree. I think players struggle with that, but that tends to he what happens when you hit your mid 20's.

TA is a bigger boys club than the AFL.

Tomic is right, but he's an enormous dickface.
It’s amazing. In the AFL everyone goes through the same old cliches during press conferences that we always cry out for someone to speak their mind and tell the truth.

Tomic does it in tennis and suddenly he is vilified. Sure maybe he is a bit of a dick but at least he is going away from the grain and bringing up a few points that need discussing as what he is saying most likely has truth to it.
