My mate just said the same thing to me!

Watch him s**t the bed next game after knocking out the only bloke who could beat Rafa or Joker.
Federer wasn’t going to beat Nadal or Djoker. Please. Fed is Nadal’s puppy, same for Djokovic. It was either them two or tonight.

Nadal has gone away and worked on improving aspects of his game because he knows Federer and Djokovic has the wood on him. He isn't concerned about anyone else. With those changes Federer has a different proposition to deal with which he won't be able to counter now. We won't have a big 3 much longer it will be the big 2 for I think another 2 years. Still well and truly the best in the business.
Since when has Fed had the wood on Nadal? Nadal probably wanted to adjust /adapt his game for Djokovic and him only.

Since Fed started hitting every ball on the rise in 2017 Nadal hasn't been able to get over him. Nadal has the wining match up because 40% of the games they played were on clay, while 6% of the games were on grass.

Probably saved himself getting breadsticked or bagelled by one of Novak or Rafa!

And Nadal has beaten him on both surfaces. Nadal even adapted his game and won Wimbledon against the greatest on that surface. Federer couldn’t do that on clay.
The record in Grand Slams is 9-3 Nadal’s way. That’s the important stat. Prior to 2017 Aus open final, Nadal actually beat him 6 times in a row. Last win was way back in 2007.

Federer has won the last 6 hasn't he? Rafa hasn't beaten him since 2016 that's the point I was getting at not ancient history results. There's no way someone as meticulous in their preparation as Rafa is will allow that to continue.

Nadal was a nightmare matchup for Fed. Nadal's topspin forehand goes right into the Fed backhand which is the side that can be a little shanky and error prone. Nadal just doesn't miss much.

Not anymore. Yes Nadal puts a lot of topspin and depth on shots and one handed backhands naturally struggle on high balls. However Federer has been standing closer to the baseline since 2017 and hits the ball on the rise a lot which is why hes won the past 5. As Kyrgios said it feels like Federer half volleys everything.

Rafa won't beat Federer. Guaranteed.
I owe you an apology, you were right mate :thumbsu:, hope there's no hard feelings :)

While I know there are a lot of Fed fans (including broadcasters and the AO organisers) tonight's result is good for tennis.

On Tsitsipas, as Bert would say, "I like the boy!" (very old reference)

He still has a losing record against Rafa where it counts though basically. Federer has to stand closer at his age he's not going 4+ hours, and his return game has been rubbish for over 6 months. He basically wants to get to net to avoid playing rally balls.

Nadal remains the best chance of becoming the first player in the Open Era to achieve a Career Grand Slam twice.

He first had the chance to win a 2nd Australian Open in 2017 when he lost in 5 sets to Federer.

Federer doesn't play the French so can be discounted from the conversation. His last semi at the French was 2012.

And then there is Djokovic who could possibly win another French Open, maybe even 2 if he's lucky.

Time will tell.

OKay, Pav. You are nearly there.

guaranteed to have a new semi-finalist, if Pav can win just one more game in the next 3. Either Pav or Collins. No disrespect to either Collins or Pav, but Kvitova/Barty would love this.

That is assuming Pav finishes it. 0-40 at 5-2 up. gulp.

Shame that Barty v Kvitova is the QF rather than the SF. Winner of that match will easily make the final.

How ridiculous are the WTA rankings? Collins had never won a GS match and missed being seeded by 1!

Sloane Stephens loses in 3. In her 45th slam, Pavlyuchenkova has her best chance to finally make a semi final.
