It was a good performance by Joker, though far from outstanding - Medvedev had a poor night but it happens - Medvedev has issues with his forehand which was magnified by the quicker surface - He's still a chance to win a GS.

Anyway the circus continues with the men at MontPellier and Singapore this week, while the woman are in Adelaide.

This was all spin by Tiley and Andrews - The OZ Open was never going to be played in Asia because countries have locked down their borders and probably only China has the infrastructure to run a Grand Slam - My information is that if there was no OZ Open in 2021, there may have been well funded pop uo tournaments in the Middle East - It's the Middle East who is the only threat long-term for the Aussie Open.
and you'd know better than tiley. rofl

does anyone know whether the flake who got tossed out for screaming was one on the anti-vax nutters?

SMH reporting viewership down 30%. Pandemic related, poor match quality or something else?

Not school holidays is a huge reason. Wouldn’t read much into it.

What does tv audiences have to do with school holidays?

Everyone is at school during the days and a lot of kids are asleep by 8-9pm at the latest. If kids are at school parents are generally working.

I'd be surprised to see Fed get passed a 4th round of any slam in the future. Hasn't played in over a year, and isn't getting younger.

Gut feeling is he plus Wimbledon and if he gets a decent run (say a quarter final or semi) he may retire.

My post contained facts about infrastructure and closed borders in most parts of Asia - I suggest if you closely follow the sport then you may have more of an idea.

Who cares what the evicted ticket holder was protesting about.

Could it have something to do with the combatants? Particularly Djoker, who isn't the most popular tennis player and didn't endear himself to Aussies with his pre-GS demands.

Oh here we go again, demands lol.

A) they were not demands
B) they weren’t for himself
C) they were on behalf of many players

Most opponents seem to have a poor night against Novak in Oz Open finals.

RUBBISH!!!

Medvedev didn't have a poor night. He managed to win many of his service games in quick time. He won a decent amount of the extended rallies. He succumbed to what every challenger has against Novak - his undeniably superior mental resilience. He clearly showed it as much when Danil had a bit of a rally in the 3rd set with the crowd urging him on. Novak pointed to his head and stated it himself.

Danil broke down when Novak kept hitting 1st serves with pin-point accuracy. In a Slam final, most players serve is nervy but Novak didn't really miss a beat, and it unsettled Danil. That's on him. He lost his way not because he wasn't up to Novak's level as tennis player. He lost it because he was mentally weaker, as they all are now. Novak has an aura around him in all Slam finals except the French.

Novak doesn't shy away from Slam finals. He relishes them. Since he came back from injury in 2018, he's 5-1 in Slam finals and that 1 is on Nadal's court. He's won 2x Oz, 2x Wimbledon, & 1x US.

I am Joker's biggest fan but the FACT is Medvedev was comfortably beaten in the final and didn't give a yelp in the last two sets - The part of Joker's game that stood out throughout the tournament was his serve which was next level by his standards.
