It shows massive flaws in the system.
****in stupid Henin. I knew Sharapova had the match in the bag but I thought Henin would fight out a set.
Most people say the problem with women's tennis is that it's usually 1 v 3 and 2 v 4 in the grand slam semis, we get 5 v 3 and 4/8 v 9/29 and you're complaining? If you want to see the best 8 players in the world playing each other that happens in November. It shows massive flaws in the system. I tell you what you would not see a Wimbledon draw as lopsided as this Australian Open (both men and womens). It has been a disgrace. This is exactly why the AO and the US and French need to move towards a flexible seeding system. You would not have had Serena lower than 5 in the Wimbledon seeding system, and Sharapova would have been higher as well. It needs changing becuase whoever wins in that quarter will just be cannon fodder for Ivanovic/Venus and it is not what you want in a Grand Slam Semi!
As for the mens match, Youzhny was close to taking the match. That might sound silly but I firmly believe if he managed to get out of that 3rd set tiebreak he would've won the match. Tsonga happened to play a terrific tiebreak and didn't faulter other than the one serve and volley on his second serve. Youzhny was lifting his play as the match wore on and Tsonga was feeling the heat. I think this is a great result for Nadal as there's no way Tsonga is keeping up this form and Nadal will get every one of his flashy shots back and eventually frustrate him. When that happens, expect his head to drop, just like Monfils.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is a gun, I reckon he can take it up to Rafa but it will be interesting![]()

Unfortunately the bottom halves of both draws this year happen to feature all the GS underperformers and rising stars who haven't proven themselves yet, but you can't do seedings on the basis of past of lack of GS experience. Anyway 6 of the top 8 made the semis of one of the hardcourt slams last year, Jankovic did it in the 2006 US, only Ivanovic hasn't made the last 4 before
no way in hell. hes very simular to simon, and rafa will just hack it and win in straight sets.![]()
We're just going to have to find out, but I am on Tsongas bandwagon alright...![]()
What was a flaw was the possibility that if Federer lost before the 4th round he could have lost his #1 ranking to Nadal. That's just ridiculous.
I reckon ATP rankings should be over a 2 year period rather than 1 year.
Wimbledon seem to do it fine and they get the perfect balance as well. IMO no way should a grand slam be straight off the rankings, they should be discretionary.
Sometimes its good to be neutralIm not a fan of Tsonga , but either am i a rafa fan, so ill be an independant observer in that match.
hehe its kinda weird it happens almost every yearTsonga is keeping up the tradtion of lower ranked players having great Aussie Open
