Quite a few aussies are getting through the first round and a few more maybe likely. That is compared to other years.

MENS SINGLES: Luczak breaks twice in the fourth set and looks to be taking the game away from Zabaleta.
1-6, 7-6, 3-6, 0-3
With Luczak on serve to go up 0-4.

WOMENS SINGLES: And fellow Australian Rodionova has defeated Bachmann in straight sets.
7-6, 6-4 to advance into the second round.

Meanwhile Tenth Seed Marion Bartoli of France has been beaten in three sets in a shock defeat against Sofia Arvidsson.
6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-3.

the facts of the matter are
the courts were utter rubbish, as someone who trained in squads regularly at the melbourne park complex, the bounce was uneven, slow, and balls sat up beautifully for european type players
Whilst i havent played on the new courts, if the uneven bounce has gone, and the ball is coming through a bit quicker, it can only be good for the future of the game in this country
On Lleyton, i aint his biggest fan, due to on court petulance.
Yet i find it amusing when everyone say's he always has an excuse for losing, yet they never put henin, roddick et al in the same category. Henin is by far the worst at this, watch out for a match in which she is struggling with/loses this tournament, she rolls out the same excuse of having re-occuring blisters on her hand which she has had since a child. Funny they never flare up when shes winning

Centrebet just took a smashing. Federer to win the first set 6-0 was crunched form $12 to $8.50 and Federer to concede less than 8 games in from $2.30 to $1.80

Very true. Although I must admit I'm one to get exited every January about "The Gooch"!!! It lets me hold off having to support "The Brat" until the second round. But "C'Mon" it is for me now.:D:D:D
I would rather support anyone else playing against Hewitt regardless of the fact he is an Australian. The guys an absolute disgrace to Australians and makes aus look like a laughing stock in the world of tennis

The worst ever Aussie is that little brat Klein, or something like that, Bayden Klein. This 18 year old little shit threw his racket into the net, into the sponsor sign, kicked the sponsor sign, yelled heaps, threw his racket into the ground several times and he was the most disgraceful and arrogant tennis player I have ever seen. I am glad he lost and I have never said that about an Australian before. He makes Hewitt look polite.

He makes Hewitt look polite.
I suggest you get yourself a copy of the Australian Open final that Hewitt lost, absolute disgrace, and how people could have supported him through that match with the way he carried on is beyond me

I can't believe how well he played, He was sick as a dog for the week leading up to the Australian Open, Missed Kooyong so he hasn't played a "proper" game of Tennis for a long while. All he's been doing has been training under closed doors.
To absolutly disgrace an opponent who has pushed him a couple of times before (Admittedly not very much because he won in stright sets) is phenomonal.
He has to be without a doubt the best Tennis player to have ever set foot on a Tennis court.

Henin seems to be cruising (as she should) against Poutchkova. Henin Serving.
6-1, 3-1

Whilst Australian Dellacqua is struggling against 15th seed Schnyder. Schnyder serving to go 4-1 up.
6-4, 3-1

Henin seems to be having just a little ounce of trouble closing the match. She's been broken twice in this second set and now finds herself serving to go 6-5 up in the second set.
6-1, 5-5

Dellacqua has fought back she has now took the second set. She came from 3-0 down as this match goes into a Third Set.
4-6, 7-5

Henin breaks Poutchkova and wins in straights. However she did have some trouble closing the game, two of her service games got broken but she isn't world number 1 for nothing and was able to break back when it mattered most.
6-1, 7-5
