Yeah, it's a very USA dominated field!

You_Idiot would be very pleased to see the USA players doing so well at the Australian Open.

True, but it's pretty much expected to have the American players do so well (see my comments on the Williams sisters' dominance as well as me expecting Andre Agassi to win this tournament).

This or any other major in tennis is not as big of a deal compared to other international sport (eg., the USA's World Cup run last year, which very few soccer fans outside the United States expected).

Still, I'm very pleased for my countrymen and countrywomen.

But quite frankly, aside from the soccer and waiting with baited breath for the Wizard Cup to start, I'm totally hyped up about Super Bowl Sunday (or Super Bowl Monday, over here)... Go Raiders!! :D:D:D

Cheers,
William

Well it's not quite an all USA mens final as Andy Roddick ran out of petrol tonight and lost in 4 sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Andre Agassi would have to be red hot favourite now for Sunday's final.

About as close to a lead-pipe cinch of a lock that you can get at this point, certainly.

Seems that the epic quarterfinal took a lot out of Roddick, which frankly, isn't all that surprising.

Cheers,
William

I know a lot of people don't like how Venus and Serena Williams are so dominant in the womens game, but how good are these sisters really??

To have one be the best in the world would be something special, but for both sisters to be so good is just unbelievable. Did anyone catch the story they showed on Channel Rex after the Roddick game about the Williams sisters and what they had to go through growing up in a rough neighbourhood?? It was really interesting I thought.

I saw that. I thought that was really good! Shows how they came through and it proves that you can be what ever you want to be, regardless of the situations. Great story!

Congratulations to Andre Agassi on his win today in the Australian Open. He is a true chanpion, even past the age of 30... well done Andre!!

Final score: 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.

Of the seven majors Agassi has won, five have come after the age of 29.

Definitely a case of an athlete who has reached his best when he gets older... very well done, indeed, Andre!

Cheers,
William

I agree!! :D

That's a top effort again Andre! He is, as you say, a true champion of tennis! :D

Congratulations Agassi!! :D

Go Tampa Bay.

The Bucks certainly outclassed the Raiders in the Superbowl yesterday.... well done to Tampa Bay.

I still can't understand how Americans can take a game that lasts 48 minutes of actual playing time and make it last nearly 4 hours!!

I love the footy code of gridiron, understand its nuances and am able to explain it to my lovely wife-- but yeah, I can't understand the 48 minutes-to-4 hours ratio, either!! Short-attention-span stuff, I reckon!

I'll say the same thing I said when Geelong didn't make the finals last year, in the Raiders' defense... we were just beaten by a better team, plain and simple. And the 48-21 final score, it wasn't even THAT close.

My brother back home in California, he's been a dyed-in-the-wool Buccaneer fan for a very, very, very long time, and to see his team finally win the big one, that lessens the pain of losing. I'm happy for him, and I'm happy for them.

But at least I had Andre Agassi pegged as the men's winner in the Australian Open-- so at least I got that one right! :D:D:D

Cheers,
William

It's too much like chess for me to really enjoy the game of American Football, but one game a season I will watch because of the occasion.

15 minutes x 4 quarters = 60 minutes.

Plus the clock gets stopped from time outs, incomplete passes, 2 minute warnings, turnovers, scores, extra points, etc, etc. The clock only runs from a complete pass or a run.

Thanks for that. I couldn't remember if it was 12 or 15 minute quarters in American Football.... for some reason I thought it was the same as Basketball.
