Sydney has the Olympics and we all know they follow Rugby but rugby is in the olympics. Why cant we have a 100% Australian Game in the Olympics (even as a demonstration) ?

How is the rest of the world supposed to know about it if it does'nt get watched?

What are your opinions ?

I couldn't care less that the rest of the world doesn't know about AFL football.

Why is there this need to try and push the game outside our fence?

I think the AFL is just keeping it’s head above water as far as it’s public credibility rating is concerned. The last thing it needs is to be tarred with the same brush as such dodgy organisations as the IOC and SOCOG!!!

Sorry people I'll put my soapbox away!(perhaps I'll slide it under my high horse)

Cheers

No Aussie Rules at the Olympics ?

- What a relief !

The *7%$@! Olympic Games are totally corrupt and any 'Olympic Sport' is similarily tainted with the same brush.

I am so gald our great game is not involved with this criminal activity in any way shape or form.

Rather than debacle it will inevitably be, they should have the Grandfinal as the opening of the olympics.

Its sport.

Its Australian.

And it will be a hell of a lot more interesting than whatever they have planned!

well chev you got me interested in your topic yet again.
I agree with having the GF as the opening ceremony except the people that go wouldn't know the first thing about footy

Footy supporters are salt of the earth type people not bribe taking doped up types that the olympics seems to offer

And another thing Why is it that if anyone except an aussie breaks a record or swims well he/she must be on drugs, just because theyre not australian

there is plenty of interest overseas in AFL but the problem with it though is that the world is a damn big place and the many people who enjoy our great game are only a vocal minority sadly !

I dont know about anyone else in here but I am passionate about our game and would like it to prosper.

The Australia v Ireland games are very special games however it can and should be shared around the world much more with help from everyone.

I e-mailed www.usfooty.com and www.afana.com telling them they should post flyers around american high schools etc.. and give free coaching clinics to conjure up more interest.

we all know Americans are mad about sport and (Rough tuff footy)

If anyone feels as passionate about promoting AFL around the world give Wayne Jackson an e-mail.

waynej@afl.com.au

I was lucky enough to obtain his e-mail address from the comunications manager of the west coast eagles when I went an e-mail to every club a few monts ago

I also recieved a copy of the 103rd Annual Report from 1999 from Tony Peek the General Manager - Corporate affairs & Communications with a cover letter I will publish in a new topic soon

P.S If we help promote the game overseas think of the increased jobs for manufacture of footballs and merchandise etc.. all that money comes into OZ

Jaffa,

Your attitude puzzles me. Why would you not want our game to be as big as it can be ?

Arch said the same thing some weeks ago. He said : "Let's just keep it our little secret"

I can't believe this line of thinking.

I went to the Australia-Ireland Gaelic match and it was sensational. Over 64,000 turned up, and it was a great match with a fantastic parochial atmosphere. The fans loved it.

To NOT want Australian Football to ever spread internationally is beyond belief.

It's a bit like seeing the moon, and not wanting to go there. Why did man land on the moon ? The answer is to explore and whet our human appetite for curiosity.

I suppose you would not want to ever travel to another planet if the technology suddenly became available. Would you not want to ever travel to another country.

I know this is getting a bt off track, but if some one was to ask "Why did man go to the moon ?". The best answer is : "Becasue it was there"

We should want as many people as possible playing our great game. People from far and wide. It will probablty never happen, but that's not to say we shouldn't promote it. Whats wrng with dreaming ? Why would we not want 100 million playing the game instead of a few hundred thousand ?

Why would we NOT want the thrill of international competition, and the chance to play for your country ? Why would we not want the game to expand and be as big as it can be, being played by many different races and cultures ?
