We live in a very fickle country, don't we?

This latest debacle within the Big Brother house/ series has really emphasised to me just how erratic and changeable the minds of easily-influenced citizens are. When Bree was told it was her "time to go" a little over a week a go, the crowd went up in raptures, cheering with joy that they'd finally get to see the back of the ever-annoying housemate. Not many people liked her, everyone was getting sick of her, and indeed, most people thought it was time for her to get the boot. Her popularity on the Big Brother website was down around the 5% mark, with popular housemates such as Ryan, Trevor and Paul holding up near the 20% popularity. So it was clear to see Bree wasn't in with a chance of winning.

Then something happened- something completely out of Bree's control, in which she did nothing of note that would make you think her personality has changed. She was incorrectly evicted, and was to re-enter the house later on that next day. Suddenly, according to the Australian public, Bree had changed her person, and was this new and loveable housemate, ready to make a serious charge towards the million dollars. Her popularity, after one night in lockdown, in which no one saw her do ANYTHING, had gone from 4% to 20%+, and her odds with bookies plumetted significantly.

It makes me wonder: Are there seriously that many people out there who do a complete 180 degree turn on their thoughts on a person, just because they have been caught in a spot of bad luck? (Or good luck, as it turned out) Are there seriously people out there who would waste money on voting for someone, just because they shed a few tears (well actually in Bree's case, she tries to shed tears, but nothing comes out!) and play for the sympathy vote?

Bree did NOTHING to earn the popularity of the voting Australian public, and she certainly did NOTHING to show she is a 15% better person. It's disappointing to see that, as time goes on, Australian society become more and more fickle, gullible and erratic, than ever.

Redeem yourselves oh fickle ones, vote Bree out of the house as soon as the next opportunity arises! [end rant]

The Australian BB voters always vote out anyone even slightly interesting, opting instead for the boring wallflowers. Don't understand it myself, but then again, I've never bothered voting.

I haven't bothered voting either, I don't mind the show, but have never watched it religiously. This situation is different to those times when the public simply vote out the bad guy. This time a disliked person's popularity has soared through the roof, simply because something out of the ordinary happened to her. I just think it shows that often people are judged upon by what situations they have put in to, not by what they have done.

The average BB watcher is a teen, and well, they vote for the pretty people to stay in, and vote out the people who don't do dishes... much like the people in the house really...
I don't think using the words "Australian Society" and BB, works tiger, not enough people actually watch the show anymore...
I watch it, and I've voted, I voted out Monica because she was going against my morales, voted out Aphrodite because she just drove me crazy and voted out Krystal because I got sick of her :p
Big Brother is no way to judge society, its just people having fun and stuff...

Sure, I agree with you that the majority of BB watchers are teenagers, however I'm sure we'd all be surprised at the amount of non-teens who are also hooked on the show. Obviously I realise there are plenty of areas of society that would not watch the show at all, and therefore it's a loaded argument when judging Australian Society through BB patterns, but it's still interesting to observe.

Given that so many things are marketed towards the average teen, they make up a huge part of society. It is both interesting, and disturbing, to observe how easily the opinion of these "teens" is changed simply through a trivial matter of circumstance, such as this instance.

I just had a look see on the BB website, and it has a bit where is says, "Vote for Bree in the Popularity Poll"
Maybe that's why she's got a higher percentage than before......

These teens don't really care what the personalities of the people they vote out our, nor do they care what sort of people are left in the house. The primary audience is teenage girls, and I'd say a majority are voting to keep the hot guys in - not rocket science, really. (Although, I can't figure out why Wesley left - I didn't think he was that hot, but I'm sure a lot of younger teenage girls did!) I was 15 at the time of the first Big Brother, and both myself and all my friends were obsessed with Blair. The only time I've ever voted on BB was during the first series, when I voted numerous times in the last few weeks to keep Blair in - as did almost every girl I knew. Doubtless at the expense of much more interesting people.

The show is crap, and with an audience like it has, could you expect anything more?

I have 2 teenagers, male mind you.The only interesting bits for them are the psuedo fight with Merlin, who they thought needed to grow some balls, and Ryan as he is a footy player.

I think its teenage girls who vote.No idea why you would bother to waste money on these guys mind you.

As for the mother who left her kids to go find herself, she deserves nothing. How could you leave your kids if you are a Mum.No way.

people actually vote for real?

and assuming they do, BB actually records those votes?

next you're going to tell me that the whole series isn't rigged to maximise ratings and there is more to voting than ripping people off and making millions for execs
