I know there is an award by the ABC for the Australian Sportsmen of the Year, but i think there should be a hole set of awards, like the World Sporting Award recently handed out.
At the World Sporting Awards there were the following medals:
Mens Athletics
Womens Athletics
Mens Water Sports
Women Water Sports
Mens Ball Sports
Womens Water Spots
Combat (ie, Boxing)
I think that the ABC should divide the award up like that, how can you compare a runner against a cricketer or something, i reckon its to difficult and there should be 7 different categories.
And i also think there should be another category added for an all-round sportsmen. This award would be dedicated to those who are very gifted sportsmen, and play a number of sports at a high level, but just haven't been able to make it that level where they earn enough money to live of the sport.
For istance Justin Dery, who plays first grade cricket for Eastern Suburbs in Sydney and first grade Australian Rules in Sydney for East Sydney, would be the type of person in contention for this medal.
What are your thoughts? good idea/bad idea/dont care?
