Birt is making himself a lock for the top order, his strike rate is through the roof and scoring a heap of runs when chasing large scores shows he is not just doing it during play time.

Hogg is bowling well but I think his time is finished in International cricket.
For a world cup it'd be ridiculous not picking the best players available.

I can understand in the year's leading up to a world cup that you'd might want to build a cup winning squad, but Hogg's performances have him in the best spinner or two in the country

Hoggy putting his hand up. On performances in the BBL he should be picked for the Australian squad, doubt it will happen though.

As Sean Connery said, " never say never ".
As Justin beiber would say.......

he is in scintilating form, but since CA have used T20's as a good way to blood in new ODI bowlers and batsmen i can see him missing out for youth. T20i's IMO are more pointless than domestic comps (which are good and mean something) and so i fully endorse using it as good practice for players of the future.

D. Warner

S. Marsh
M. Wade +
M. Hussey
D. Christian
S. Smith/D.Hussey
S. Warne *
B. Lee
D. Nannes
S. Tait

I don't see much point playing guys like Cummins, Pattinson and Watson in this series, considering they have all been injured recently. Cummins and Pattinson in particular need to be well managed. Let Lee, Nannes and Tait go for broke.

Watson is obviously in our best 20/20 XI, but I wonder whether it's worth it with him as well. Christian can do a similar role while preserving Watson for tests.

Serious about Warne as captain.

I'm all aboard the Hogg bandwagon as well. He's been bamboozling them in the Big Bash and would probably be even more effective on Sub-continent pitches, where the tournament will be. He seems to get low bounce now (but with lots of spin), as he's so short, so on those pitches it would bounce even less and I imagine would be harder to get away, while probably spinning more.
He looks to be clearly our best option right now and has been more economical than Warne and if he plays in the IPL and has success there, I'd be even more happy to have him play for us in the World T20. Why the hell not! Who cares about age? Lets live now!
White has been in terrible form for almost 12 months now, so unless it improves dramatically by then, we need to find another option to captain the side. If Watson is there, he could do it, otherwise I guess the best option for the moment would be David Hussey, who has captained plenty of times for Victoria and has played more T20 matches than possibly anyone on the planet, in all sorts of conditions.
If Watson doesn't play, I'd rather see Ronny McDonald (or maybe Faulkner) play the "bowling all rounder" role, than Dan Christian, as his bowling is better I reckon and his terrific slower balls would be highly effective on those pitches. McDonald also has a surprisingly outstanding batting average in T20's (35, from 74 matches, top score of 96*), compared to Christian, who has also played 74 matches, but averages just 18 (not sure where they've both been coming in through their careers, though and I imagine Dan has a better strike rate- they don't have one listed for Ronny on Cricinfo). They both average mid 20's with the ball and go for about 8 an over and get a wicket every 18/19 balls, with McDonald's figures slightly better in all 3 regards. He doesn't hit the ball as far as Christian, but on those small grounds, he wouldn't have to. You get the same 6 runs if you just clear the boundary as you get if you clear it by 20 rows.
Then again, they will probably play Mitch Marsh ahead of both of them. He played in Australia's last T20 game and I imagine they will pick him again in the coming T20's V India, as they'll want to continue to fast-track his development. In his 50 the other night he was just easing the ball over the rope for 6 (4 of them) and he could do that again on the Sri Lankan grounds. He wouldn't even have to hit them hard to hit sixes there.

I'd go for almost a separate (and generally younger) T20 team...

David Warner
Shaun Marsh
Aaron Finch
David Hussey
Travis Birt
Mitch Marsh
Matthew Wade
James Faulkner
Clint McKay
Brad Hogg
Dirk Nannes

Rob Quiney
Daniel Christian
Steve O'Keefe
Kane Richardson

Realistically though, Cameron White and Brett Lee will be in there. Same goes for Steve Smith and Mike Hussey

Going on previous international performance and current BBL form, I'd go with:

Warner
Watson
SMarsh
Birt
MHussey
DHussey
Wade
Hogg
Lee
Starc
Nannes

Finch
O'Keefe
MMarsh
McKay

A few unlucky, including Christian, Lyon, Faulkner and Quiney.

White may have saved his spot with his innings last night. One of the Hussey's would probably drop out in this case.

I know people are obsessed with Whites form this season, but his T20I form wasnt that bad, he made 39 off 26 before being run out in his last T20I and 28 off 22 in his game before that

White has been well and truly out of form in pretty much all forms of the game in the last 12 months, but you're right, his last two T20's for Australia were far from bad (top scored for us in our last T20i and actually made 39 off 32 in the game before those two, as well), so it would take a lot for them to not select him for the coming series.
I don't remember the last time Australia "dumped" someone who had been captaining the side, especially if they got our highest score in their last game and second highest in both of the two prior to that (which White did).

He looked ordinary at the start again last night, but then he started to actually middle a couple of his big shots again (and then got caught on the boundary, which would probably have been a six on a lot of grounds), so maybe he'll be given a "stay of execution" for the time being.
He'll probably be named in the squad and given a chance to impress for the Stars in the BBL final(s), which is probably fair enough, given his last few T20's for Australia. It may only take a good innings for him to get his confidence and form back again.
If he does play for us against India and doesn't do well, though, I would hope they wouldn't pick him for Australia's next T20's, unless he turns things around incredibly in the meantime.

The problem with White is he has a very limited number of shots that he can play well. He hits to cow corner and he straight drives the odd one. It's too easy to set a field to him and bowl to him. He's been found out.

Hard to argue with any of that, although he does do quite a lot of cuts through the off side, as he did last night, especially off spin. He and Maxwell out to go and find some more areas to hit to, although White seems to have more areas than him at this stage.

Wow. They're saying in the papers today that Cameron White is set to be dumped from the T20 captaincy, which is no great surprise, but the one they're suggesting is tipped to replace him is.
They're tipping that George Bailey will take over, which is a huge WTF moment for me.
I mean White has had a terrible tournament so far, but Bailey has also been one of the bigger disappointments of the BBL so far, making just 110 runs from 96 balls, at 22, with a highest score of 33. And it's not like he hasn't had any chances to make runs, because with the Stars going so poorly, early on, he had ample opportunities to stake his claims on the national side with some big scores.
If you want to dump someone from the national captaincy who's made the highest score in Australia's last T20 and their 2nd highest in the two previous matches, you'd better be replacing them with someone who is absolutely demanding a spot in the side, with their fantastic performances, but if he gets replaced by someone who has an inferior T20 record in basically all regards, and has made just 110 from 96 balls at 22 in this tournament, it would be an insult. It's also hard to see how that would really benefit the national team, as it looks like it would be a sideways step to me, not a step forward. You'd be replacing one who is not in good form with someone else who is also not in good form and who is actually older than him and who has far, far less T20 experience! What the hell's the point?
In no way, shape, or form is Bailey demanding a spot in the national T20 side with his performances, when you consider the likes of Birt, Finch and Quiney (who have also not been in the side) have made 334, 259 and 235 in the same tournament, at much faster strike rates. Then you've got Christian who's made 50% more runs for the tournament, at a much faster strike rate and who also brings bowling to the table, as does Andrew McDonald, who has also had a much better tournament with the bat than Bailey and has good captaincy experience (leading Leicestershire at times in the English T20 comp last year- where he also made over 600 runs and won the t20 Player of the Year award for the whole comp).
