Based on form in the Big Bash - there is almost a case to argue for Marcus North. He's been pretty good, and consistent. Playing the anchor role with someone like Gibbs or SE Marsh going off at the other end.

I like Bailey as a player, but he'd be getting picked as a specialist captain. In which case you might as well just stick with White.

Don't see how he would get picked ahead of Birt, Quiney, Finch or D Hussey. Throw in M Marsh, Christian, Maxwell and unfortunately Smith as the all rounders. And then you still have Wade, and the likes of Warner, S Marsh and M Hussey to come in.

If White continues to struggle and Bailey doesn't do something extraordinary in the next two matches, then I would probably rather David Hussey took over the captaincy than either of them, if they don't want Warner to do it yet.
Dussey is in good form with both the bat and ball, has captained Victoria numerous times in all formats and has more T20 experience than possibly anyone on the planet (and more than White and Bailey combined). I think his captaincy would be pretty aggressive and could work well with our team.
He could do it for the time being until they decide Warner is ready for it, or someone like White or Bailey are back in top form, or Paine is back from injury. Mike Hussey could also do it, if he is going to be playing for Aus in that format (although he wasn't last year).

I think the top 3 pick themselves after that it gets tricky.

Shane Watson
Dave Warner
Shaun Marsh
Daniel Harris
David Hussey
Michael Hussey
Matt Wade/Tom.Triffit
Xavier Doherty/Nathan.Hauritz
Brett Lee
Pat Cummins
Dirk Nannes/Doug Bollinger

Daniel Harris would be in the top 6 best Australian 20/20 batters but i don't want to change the Watson/Warner combo so stuck him at 4. I put Tom Triffit up as an unknown quantity as i don't think Wade has played too well in 20/20's recently. Nathan Hauritz could easily do the spinners role but Doherty is the number 1 atm. I reckon while Nannes is still playing we may as well use him as he is a gun bowler & can attack or keep it quiet. I've got Lee & Cummins as the out and out quicks too get wickets when required. Shane Watson is the key to this side & probably the best 20/20 player going around.

Having a look at my side again I would now swap Daniel Harris with Travis Birt in impressive form. And on performances would have Brad Hogg as my spinner. Clint Mckay would also be very close to getting a game.

I'd go for almost a separate (and generally younger) T20 team...

David Warner
Shaun Marsh
Aaron Finch
David Hussey
Travis Birt
Mitch Marsh
Matthew Wade
James Faulkner
Clint McKay
Brad Hogg
Dirk Nannes
wade opening, Christian in for Shaun marsh and starc in for McKay (Victorian bias reigns in this forum) and that's the team I'd be going for.

would be tempted to replace Faulkner with Doherty if Christian is in too.

lol, accusing him of Victorian bias?

Anti Victorian bias reigns in this forum if you dont think McKay is worthy of playing for Australia in T20

lol. says he with a bushrangers av...

McKay wouldn't be in the first 5 quicks picked. nannes, starc, Faulkner, coulter Nile, pattinson (shouldn't be picked) and even edmonson, hilfenhaus and probably lee are all in front of McKay.

he's had a reasonable big bash, but he shouldn't even be close. especially when I think you'd play two of doherty, Hogg, krejza, beer and okeefe in front of him as well. looks like 2 spinners should be the go in t20.

(for the record, I "chose" the stars, and still don't think McKay is close)

As a sneaky aside, Eddiesmith you should update your sig, none of your teams won shit in 2011 :p

Brad Hogg might be too old but on form you would pick him. Mitch Marsh is making big strides as a player and it won't be long before he is in the Australian team.

Has 1 T20I before being injured and went for 19 runs off his 4 overs...Has an ODI bowling average of 21, the only reason he isnt settled into both sides was he was injured last year

Also would be ahead of Faulkner thats for sure, leaks too many runs, he isnt ready yet

Nannes, Starc and Lee might be an exciting attack but you wouldnt play all 3 of them together, need the McKay type

As for 2 spinners, thats what Duss is for

i just can't agree that one good game before breaking down entitles a guy to his spot. i think faulkner is the second top wicket taker for the current big bash? there's probably some merit in not picking him in the same team as lee and starc, but i reckon he's in front of lee because he can bat.

can't say i agree on the spinner issue either. especially in australian conditions, spinners are proving to be the match winners in just about every game. there's no doubt in my mind whatsoever that you have to play two spinners. if wade bats top 4 (which he absolutely should, i can't believe how badly the Stars have wasted his batting), then faulkner could realistically bat at 7, you can forget christian, and he's a genuine allrounder so 'team balance' probably becomes less relevant (especially when the majority of people, myself included, have mitch marsh and david hussey in their top 6). that still allows 2 pacemen, but i reckon those two pacemen are starc and either nannes or lee.

Don't know about Lee anymore, really does seem the end is nigh for him. Pace is clearly no where near where it once was and the wickets just ain't flowing anymore.

Wasn't he in the team in South Africa a few months ago or was that the ODI team ?
He had one match in T20 where he smacked Morne Morkel around in the last over. And one ODI where he bowled pretty well. But I'm sure he was only in those matches as Watson was unfit so he's probably borderline at present.

Last night wouldn't have done him any harm.
