Test Australian squad for The Subcontinent

Sorry not a Renshaw fan,not sure why you are trying to get him selected.

Has scored big test runs before, also would be our best slipper and we are still average in there. Either him or go Hunt or Street but the issue with that is we wasted all summer playing Harris when these two could have been playing

The selectors last year.

Let's have a think about it Cleavy now you have the big kid cranky shorts on. 'reeks FFS' aka Henriques has always been rated by CA. He has been to the subicon before and was at least not funny like Mere Marsh.

He has arguably improved since then and at least plays red ball cricket.

Believe me I am no fan of his but if a back up all rounder for Green was needed I would take him ahead of a guy that does not play red ball cricket (maxwell) and another who we wish did not (Mere Marsh).

If a bowling all rounder was needed in Pakistan I hope the selectors look at Neser.

There is no way on earth Agar is a test no7, and Carey isn’t a test 6. Carey has averaged barely 15-20 or whatever it is. We have Lab and Head. They can bowl spin. By all means play 2 spinners with Haze and Cummins as the two quicks. Green at 6 is the third seamer.

so we've got 6 tests , 3 v pak 2 v sri lanka and 1 v afghanistan (if they all go ahead).

you'd think cummins and lyon are locks, so assuming we don't go with an unconventional side and there's no reason to, as we've got green - then there's 12 spots available.

it remains to be seen how much cricket hazlewood, starc, boland, jhye and neser (or any other spinner) will get with swepson odds on to play a few games at least.

Would be shocked if he agreed to tour if the Gnome is coach.

Ouch the Neser one comes from left field, not sure about that one.Would have thought Neser would be more suitable for Pakistan,Engand or even SA.

Yep. I was thinking of him for Pakistan, not so much Sri Lanka.

Interesting article on recent tests in Pakistan suggesting pacers take more wickets than spinners there. Possibly inflated due to touring teams that have more test quality pacers than spinners.

Who are our best reverse swingers?

Should be a fascinating and very competitive series.
Hazelwood and Starc, one would think. Boland might go alright when the ball's going, too. Richardson's a swing bowler as much as he's a fast bowler.

I think we need to be taking a left arm finger spinner on tour for the Indian leg. If we play well in the first test against them they’ll be preparing rank turners from then on and spinners will be opening the bowling from one end. Id be planning on using Maddinson as an all-round option batting at 7 and bowling alongside Lyon and Swepson instead of Maxwell as some have suggested. Harris will be going on tour too you can pretty much lock him in

Maddinson has 8 first class wickets and has bowled 82 overs in 98 matches, that's not an all round option.

He would be in India.

Based on what, a couple of wickets in the BBL? There's already Marnus and Head for part time spin. If he's good enough to be selected in the top 6 then fair enough but far better to play a front line bowler than a batsman at 7 because he might bowl a couple of overs

Based on watching what happened in the nz series over there and applying an approach which would be best suited to playing in those conditions.

Who would our 3rd specialist red ball spinner be behind Lyon and Swepson?

Generally curious to see people's opinions on this. There's the potential that we play 3 specialist spinners at one point of time with Cummins and Green to be the two quicks (most likely in India on rank turners). Also we will need a back-up option in the squad in case one of Swepson or Lyon gets injured.

Agar to me seems most suitable in terms of the 3rd choice. Has an average of 45 with the ball in test cricket but has only played 4 tests, provides a bit of batting depth to the tail too. Left arm spinners are pretty handy in India too - Axar, O'Keefe, Jadeja, Ajaz have all had great success.

Why add bowling? Green is perfect for that 5th bowler role.

Talking Pakistan yes,I am talking India. In India our current bowling attack (the best in the world) will have to be changed you would think.2 pace bowlers plus Green as a back up plus Lyon and support from guys like Maxwell.(If he is selected of cause)

In India you play Swepson as the second and if not him then Agar. Maxwell is playing as a bat. His bowling is irrelevant

All round Maxwell should be looked as a batter, handy spin bowler and one of the best fieldsman in the world currently.A disgrace that he has not played any red ball cricket for 3 years and just wasted talent for red ball cricket. To the people that do not want him to play test cricket again please do not judge him on white ball cricket. This crap type cricket if you come in with 10 overs to go you have to play the risky shots which if fails all the drop kicks come in and have a go at him.

Pucovski has to stop getting hit in the head
He's had about 1/3 of hits in the head as his Victorian opening partner. He's prone to concussion, just a fact.
