Okay. The summer is almost on us. And after 2 covid years, life is back to normal and the whole of Australia gets to see the best tennis players in the world.

This thread is for all the pre-tournaments and lead-up to the Aus Open, held here and around the world. I will post the entry lists of every Australian tournament in the coming posts. Basically, we have a serious Hopman Cup in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane, while Adelaide hosts 2 very good WTA 500's, and 2 ATP tournaments, 1 of which has Novak. Canberra hosts some ITP events and Hobart has its little 250 event back (YAY). THe Kooyong is back in vogue with players, with a very good list of players, including world number 1, Carlos Alcaraz.

Auckland (WTA 1 ATP 2) and Pune(ATP 1) also host tournaments.

Of Course, Sydney gets Nadal and Australia. A lot of big names and very impressive teams. Greece are the number 1 seeds but look out for Spain, Yanks and Poles. It should be a good tournament. The format is the winner of each city, plus the best performing team left over, qualify for the semis in Sydney, which take place in week 2.

I am looking forward to this. A lot better than the old ATP Cup and a much stronger fielder as well. Only one player over 100 is the number 1 player for their country, and that is Norways Eikeri who is ranked 300 plus. No Serbia

Think the Greeks will be tough to beat, as I think both will be up for this.

Adelaide 1 + 2 (WTA)

Adelaide has tournaments in week 1 and 2. Precovid, there was always a tournament in China, but they are(were) still thinking the world cares about covid, so that might change in future. Not a fan of 2 tournaments in the same place.

Adelaide 1 is a good strong draw, with the draw cutting off at 32. Ons Jabeur is seeded 1, with players from mostly smaller countries or ones invading another being the dominant nationality. Rybakina playing here and not in the United Cup is interesting.

Adelaide 2 is stupidly strong. 6 out of the top 10(including Iga as the 1st seed), Cut off at 22. Come on Girls, Hobart is not too bad. Will be a bunch of withdrawals due to the 2nd week of the United Cup.

Hobart 2 (WTA)

My Local and it is back after 2 years. Our last 2 winners were Rybakina and Kenin, who both won a GS a year after winning this little one. Times change, but Kenin is back and has got a well-deserved WC. It's not the strongest field but we have previous winners of Mertens, Cornet and Kenin. Raducanu is on the list of alternatives and will probably get a WC into the main draw. I am looking forward to watching some live tennis finally.

Adelaide 1 + 2 (ATP 250)

Novak is here. The last time he was in Adelaide, he was treated like a hero in a special expo with the first crowds in tennis for nearly a year. This year, it will be interesting. Adelaide is a good spot to start his defence. . It is a very strong lineup for a 250 is no competition from the Middle East, and with the Russians being banned from international tournaments. Others players include FAA, Rune, Sinner and Sharpo, what a list.

Adelaide 2 is a bit more of a normal draw for an ATP 250 before a Grand Slam. Rublev stays but Busta, who is unseeded in week 1, is now the 2nd seed. More depth though, as Cut off is at 47, competed to week 1 which is 67.

Nicky K is the 5th seed

Canberra ITF 1
Quick post here. Highest seed is Fucsovics(87) in the mens and I can't find the girl's entry list.

Kooyong
As mentioned above, Kooyong has the number 1 player in the world. I am sure more names will appear, as players set a schedule that is flexible. De Minaur is also listed below. Have no idea if there is a tournament here or what happens. I know Carlos has just finished played in the Middle East and wants a rest, and hence Kooyong.
1. Carlos Alcaraz
2. Taylor Fritz
3. Alex de Minaur
4. Marin Cilic

The United cup as an overall product would be better off with 8 teams than 16 you feel, there are some weak teams there.

The US are the only team to have two decent men and two decent women really. Spain and Australia are both short a decent #2 on the women's side.

The men's side for the French has fallen off a cliff.

Why 6 groups of 3? Seems silly to me. I'm looking forward to it but 4 groups of 4 would be so much better.

All coverage on channels of 9 and Stan Sport, with Stan giving you choice of court/no ads.

Really wish it was one 250 in Adelaide and the other in Sydney or Brisbane, idiotic having two in the same place.

Makes no sense they aren't using Brisbane for that 250. Always a great event

What is the gold coast tennis centre doing nowadays? I would prefer a 500 ATP/WTA event than playing 2nd fiddle to Sydney's scraps.

You could have a Brisbane 500 ATP/WTA event and then a 250 WTA/ATP event the week after at the gold coast. Would limit the travel but still be 2 separate tournaments. Adelaide would then have the United Cup.

In saying that, not sure playing on the Gold Coast a week before Melbourne is good prep. it is a different type of heat.

Reckon they didn't uneven amount of teams in each city.

I do like that it is the winner of each city. I dislike the best-place runner-up.

I was at RACV Royal Pines this year, was a little stunned they used to have a WTA event, that place is tiny. No way that's having an event

I agree the city playoff day will be fun but I see no reason why the couldn't have 4 groups of 4 in 2 cities (most likely Sydney and Perth) with the Brisbane International coming back. Queenslanders get screwed over with this

yeah, good call.

I would be happy to live in South Australia. They have gone from not having any events to 4 in 2 weeks.
