Will we take 17? I doubt it. A lot depends on the fitness of Watson, Cummins and Pattinson. If they are fit, they will go.

It's a very rare position to be in to have 6 fast bowlers who have all performed well. I reckon they will take a squad of 15, with Starc, Marsh and Wade dropped from the list above.
I don't understand why everyone is leaving out Hilf. He is ranked the 7th best test match bowler in the world, and people have him out of the team...........

Yeah, that was Carlton Baugh. He's a lot like Graham Manou - an elite wicket keeper, but not quite enough with the bat.
For my money, a keeper like Baugh can average around 25, they are such a joy to watch doing their day job properly.

Instead of me sitting there going 'Move your ******* feet!' and 'Watch the ****** ball, you ****' every 5 minutes while the Aussies are fielding.

If Cummins is to be selected for this, he will need to do it on the back of zero cricket for NSW. He won't be fit to play for them before the plane to the Caribbean departs. Safe to say he won't be picked, I guess. Cutting to take his spot on the plane.

Does anyone know when J-Patt returns from injury?

nearly there, apparently fit enough in a week. They might be defensive.

Cummins took 7 wickets on debut, Pattinson has 25 wickets @ 18 in 4 tests. These are the guys that have everyone excited, and if they're fit they'll travel.

I'm a big Hilfenhaus fan and have him in our current XI, but realistically between him, Harris, Siddle, Pattinson and Cummins none deserve to be dropped. Even Starc was good in his last test. I think the squad will be heavy with quick bowlers as we have a few in form at the minute.

With all our fast bowling talent at the moment there is really no need to risk Cummins in test cricket for the next 6 or so months. He ought to get as much Shield and County cricket into him as is necessary and when he's a bit fitter and stronger they can think about bringing him back into the team, IF there is a need. At the moment, there really isn't. There's no hurry.
As for the West Indies, aren't the wickets there generally not very conducive to fast bowling? Doubt we'll be playing more than 3 in any game and as such, there is certainly no need for Cummins.

I still have this feeling that I'd like Cummins kept out of international cricket for another couple of years.

He has such an intensive action - that he looks like he could snap in half any moment.

Let his body grow to it's full height and then mature, before we put the stresses of interntaional bowling on his body.

cummins has to be 100% fit for him to play any tests from now on. they neglected his heel injury before his first test and you could see it was troubling him and he hasn't played any cricket since. i wouldn't pick him for this tour. they don't need him

I'd go for:

Warner
Cowan
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Wade
Siddle
Pattinson
Hilfenhaus
Lyon

Harris
Cummins
Khawaja
Nevill
haddin will unfortunately be picked
Khawaja the bloke has struggled in the test areana and has no form in state cricket to deservet to be picked for the trip
cummins has played 1 test arn't we getting a bit excited. he hasn't played any first class cricket for fitness to to pick him would be stupid
Nevill is behind wade in the pecking order

Just cracked 100 off 106 balls against Tasmania.

Khawaja won't benefit at all from staying in Shield cricket, he needs prolonged test exposure.

I also agree with the sentiments about Cummins. Has the potential to be lethal in the coming years, but needs more time in the first class system, regardless of his stunning debut.

Patto, Harris, Hilf and Sids with backup in Cutting or even Starc should hold us over for a while yet.

Depending on how many back-ups they take for the batting, Rob Quiney is at least putting his hand well and truly in the air this summer. (Just made a pair of centuries in the current Shield game and has well over 1000 runs in all forms of the game this season).
Probably not a good sign for him that they've selected Forrest ahead of him in the ODI squad, though, a form of the game that Forrest has had very little success at. If they're picking him ahead of Quiney in that format, despite Quiney's far superior season in it, they'll probably have him ahead of him for the test squads as well.
The next month or so will be interesting.
Usman definitely has the front running, though he'd be behind Watson.

Prety sure cummins wont go to the Windies. Not when we have a very settled attack who are performing well. No use rushing the kid back when he hasnt played any cricket for 4 months. If he is fit soon, let him play the rest of the shield and then another winter strengthining the young body for the rigors of test cricket.

With patto back you would think Harris would miss as his injuries mean he is the most unreliable.

My side would be:

Warner
Cowan
Ponting
Watson
Clarke
Hussey
Wade (out perform Haddin in warm up games)
Siddle
Patto
Hilfy
lyon

Harris
Forrest (obviously selectors like him and if he continues good shield form will probably go)
Haddin
Khawaja

This is my Test XI to tour the West Indies:

Shane Watson (VC)
David Warner
Rob Quiney
Ricky Ponting
Michael Clarke (C)
Daniel Christian
Matthew Wade
James Pattinson
Peter Siddle
Nathan Lyon
Ben Hilfenhauss

Patrick Cummins
Aaron Finch
Aaron Crosswaithe
Ryan Harris

Rob Quiney should be in the side ahead of Ed "The Autobiographer" Cowan. Quiney has a superior batting technique than Cowan, and Quiney is no Simon Katich. Rob Quiney is an attacking batsman who can score quickly to set the game up whilst putting bums on seats!!

I have not got much else to say.

having a player that isn't looking to play at every ball is what this team needs. not another player that wants to entertain the crowd. cummins needs to play a shield match or 2 to prove he can get through a test match. odi and t20 cricket isn't ideal preparation for test cricket for a young kid

I'm all for free speech/opinion so good onya for posting ya thoughts/wants.

But I'd suggest if this is what you want you may be a little dissapointed.

Wade will travel no doubt, but I reckon Haddit will get first crack.

No Hussey ??

Chris Gayle is currently playing for Jamaica in the Windies Regional 4-day competition, which makes him eligible to represent the Windies in test matches for the next 12 months. One can hope...

I just laughed like crazy.

GOV may have just earned himself the award for most outrageous post on BF cricket forum, ever.
