Khwaja is not helping his chances of getting a touring spot another poor innings for NSW against Tassie. Personally don't think he should go as not producing the goods this year in any form of the game.
Um Khwaja just hit a ton a few days ago!

big usman fan here, but tonnes in ODI's :(

Had a perfect opportunity and a reasonable start in the shield game.

WOuld like to see usman string together a few in the back half of the season before getting a test invite.

Would be outraged if Hughes or smith got a call up ahead of him.

Usman has the talent, but maybe not the mental application? (see matty elliot :( )

Good start to the patto comeback in the 2nd XI game. 3 for not many and another one retired hurt when he got hit on the elbow by patto. Hopefull the selectors tell him to concentrate on shield cricket for reat of summer and not the ODI. Need to get his body used to 4-5 day cricket.

Clarke should not bat at 3, IMO. Does his best work down the order a bit when the spinners are on.

And I can't see D. Hussey being selected.

i don't think cummins should be picked anyway.

looking unlikely to play in the next shield game. hasn't played grade cricket yet.

they should look at trying to secure a county contract for him to get some games under his belt, come back and start the season for NSW, and then look at playing against in test cricket for the home summer if his form warrants it and there is a spot for him.

i wouldn't even pick him for a pre summer tour if there is one (which there probably is).

just get him right. he could be a 100+ test player. there is no need to rush him in.

The squad picks itself, and I doubt there will be any surprises...

David Warner
Ed Cowan
Shane Watson
Michael Clarke
Ricky Ponting
Michael Hussey
Peter Forrest

Brad Haddin
Matthew Wade

Nathan Lyon
Michael Beer

Ben Hilfenhaus
Peter Siddle
Ryan Harris
James Pattinson

The only questions will be which quick misses out on the XI and where Shane Watson bats. Maybe they pick a 5th quick bowler, but they generally seem to pick a 15 man squad.

Peter Siddle
Ben Hilfenhaus
Nathan Lyon

Back up: Nevill (WK) Harris NCN Forrest

they shouldn't never have picked him for that test in the first place. they knew he was injured and it stuffed his summer up didn't it
it reeks of hilditch wanting to go out with something to hang his hat on.

was he dumn enough to think we are all dumb enough not to see through it. and that we are all stupid enough to think in the future "well at least hilditch managed to find pat cummins" as if a guy with that talent was just going to go unnoticed and left to his own playing sydney grade cricket for the next 15 years??

They never go anywhere without five fast bowlers. They took five to both Sri Lanka and South Africa and they're much easier to fly replacements over if there's any injuries.

agreed with test XI posted above a few back.

it's looking incresaingly likely that forrest will be the back up batsmen. haddin will still almost certainly get the job as back up keeper if he isn't in the XI. harris is certainly the next best bowler.

the only two questions for mine will be the other back up quick, and i think we'll take a spinner so we have 16 players.

you'd reckon beer seems to be the option for the spinner and taking 7 wickets probably cements that.

i would like to reserve judgement on the other quick. at the time being though i agree with NCN as my option. but cutting and faulkner would be very close, particularly BC, and obviously the selectors have a hard on for starc so he'll be in the frame.

I think you might have the XI right, but I'm almost certain that the selectors will want Haddin to go to the West Indies, which means it'll be a shoot-out between Wade and Haddin to play.

Forrest will be odds-on to go as the spare batsman.

Ponting has been dropped from the one-day squad. Invararity is suggesting it might prompt him to quit cricket altogether. That would definitely change the dynamics of the squad.

He's also backing Haddin to be in the Windies squad, with Wade as backup. IMHO, this allows them as much time as possible before the 1st Test before making a final call on his career. But with two more matches left in the Shield season, you wonder if a few more ducks from Haddin would change the selectors minds.

In no way did he say that. He said both Wade and Haddin would likely go. He didn't say a word about who will be picked.

I'm making the assumption that Haddin is either first choice keeper, or he doesn't make the squad at all. Generally, at Haddin's age, being dropped means your international career is over and everyone shuffles up the pecking order one slot (I guess leaving Neville as the reserve).

Which is not to say that in between the squad being announced, and the 1st Test team being selected, that Wade couldn't leap-frog Haddin. But that seems unlikely, given that there are no tour matches before the first test. Though, there are the one-dayers and T20's...

Agree.

Taking a disenchanted keeper over as a back up, that's not going to be pretty in the rooms. Especially when half the NSW players in the squad have publically gone in to bat for him. If he is picked for the squad, he will play, no doubt about it.

Cowan with his ton in the ryobi cup and two 80 odds in a low scoring shield game should have shored up his plane ticket. The selectors obviously see a lot in Forest and he hasn't done anything wrong so you suspect he should have the spare bat spot pretty much nailed down providing he doesn't completely blow the rest of the summer.

With the decision to drop Ricky from the one day side, it is about time for the selectors to plan for the 2013 Ashes tour.

The selectors should take on Aaron Finch... He is the ideal no 3 batsman. My choice is based on talent and ability.

Its a no brainer.
