Well done to Lyon on 200 wickets. A remarkable achievement.

Moves to equal 15th on the list of Australian test wicket takers.

Of spinners to take 200+ Test wickets, only Murali (55.04 balls per wicket), Warne (57.49), Graeme Swann (60.19) and Stuart MacGill (54.00) have a better strike rate than Lyon (62.07). Considering he's probably spent more time playing in batsman-friendly, spin-unfriendly conditions and times than all of them, plus had a lot of poor captaincy from a tactical and field-setting perspective as well, that's a pretty fair achievement.

Particularly when it's considered that he's only 28 and most spinners find their best form after 30.

Nathan Lyon, Ravi Ashwin, and Ragana Herath. Pretty handy trio of offies.

Smiths field placements today were strange. He was so defensive. Lyon bowled pretty average I thought. Any thing over 200 is gonna be a challenge. Was awesome to watch Mendis 169* live, he doesn't miss the bad balls. What a way to bring up his 100. He would of got 200 this afternoon if it wasn't for bad light. $2 to sit right behind the bowlers arm, $2 beers and $1 hotdogs. Thought more locals would be a the game which has been a shame

Ignore the Freo ignoramus. Do it. Let's do it.

Seriously, why would anyone, even Victorians, want to see Wade as wickie for the Aus team? The slips would have to use earplugs to not go deaf from the CLANGS from his gauntlets.

Watching a shambles attempt to keep for the Poms is a prime example. Simple stuff made to look impossible. Wade is that class with the gloves.

Not enough praise for Mendis' knock. Given the conditions and relative performance of all other batsmen in the match it's a pretty remarkable occurance. Our spinners don't seem to be a lot of chop on overseas wickets that favour turn - possibly a product of the fact Shield wickets tend to swing between extremely seam friendly or roads with not much in between?

Agree. Mendis batting has been first class. On a pitch where 47 was the top score he has made it look easy. Its always , always about application. Put your head down , no rush of blood ''trying to dominate the spinner'' and work out a wonderful 100

o'keefe, is his hammy serious?... Geez now who's the second spinner gonna be?
I suspect it will be either Holland or Zampa. Holland if they go best available, Zampa if they pick on perceived potential.
