These pitches aren't going to be bunsens from ball 1, Renshaw played flawlessly last test and was actually down right destructive at one point.

The selectors have lost the plot if they put SMarsh in for him.

Its Khawaja who should get dropped not Renshaw
I'd be starting with six batsmen - Khawaja at three, SMarsh at 6.
But I woiuld also be playing three pacemen, our spinners aren't good enough to use conditions and Indian batsmen play spin too well.
Given the wicketkeeper selected I would almost not play a spinner, having that buffoon behind the stumps must destroy the confidence of any bowler - especially spinners, and even more especially Lyon.

I'm not sure why we are still talking about the Marsh brothers tbh.

Shaun Marsh was easily test standard until he injured himself. Sure it may happen again but he's proven and has experience playing against spin. He may average 40 but take out the first 3-4 years of his career and it's far better than that. I haven't always a fan, in fact at times I thought he should've been dropped from the WA side (was once or twice) as a kick up the ass, but credit where credits due his last probably three years have been fantastic.

If he wasn't Mitch's brother no one would have a problem with him being in the squad. I certainly think every specialist batsman in this squad is a better option than Head on proven form. It's just who we'll pick in the number six spot and the keeper I have a problem with tbh, everything else we are going over their with the best we've got.

SMarsh is a proven player of spin who was in excellent form before his injury. Remshaw is a rookie on the toughest tour in cricket who had promising but patchy form throughout the summer. It would certainly not be 'losing the plot' to put the experienced player in.

That said, I agree he should be part of a six-man batting line-up or in place of Khawaja, not Renshaw.

Wow. Would prefer Smith and Marsh's part time poo over part time spin of Agar or Maxwell. Lel.
Spose you didn't watch the game where Agar took 10fa on a turning Sydney pitch?
I reckon Agar is actually a decent bowler but his development has been shunted so badly because he is playing on these terrible WACA wickets that don't spin at all. No coincidence that he barely gets any wickets in his home games then he hops onto one of the very few turning pitches in Australia and gets a 10fa

Read carefully. I wasn't badmouthing Agar. Was taking the puss out of the above suggestion of using Smith and Marsh's part time poo

Read carefully. I wasn't assuming you were badmouthing Agar, l was just telling BF world that when he actually gets a decent spinning pitch, he is a handy bowler. Took more than O'Keefe on that wicket iirc

You are 100% right Agar is surely wasting his time with WA at the moment. My understanding is that shield matches will still be played at the WACA ground once the new oval is built.

If you want to be taken seriously as a spinner you have to try & play most of your matches where conditions will actually help you.

WA seems to have a really good programme in place but bottom line if conditions don't suit you it will be harder to put your name up in lights.

I think he should consider a move anyway, really back himself to make it as a spinner / allrounder. I reckon a couple of teams would be lining up to have him, SA for one - his brother is there aswell & they havent found a replacement allrounder since Christian left

Yeah but Sommerville also got wickets.

Agar does not appear to have a problem with getting ignored by selectors

You mean one who's selected as a bowler and the other who averages 40 in test cricket?
S Marsh deserves to be there, no doubt about it.

But M Marsh isn't there as a bowler, he doesn't even average a wicket an innings at 37. There'd be a dozen bowlers that would be in front of him. He's picked as an all rounder and is very lucky to be there, but there aren't a lot of options.

Sorry but one good haul on a pitch tailor made for spin in a competition renowned for spawning players who are absolute dog shit in spinning conditions doesn't suddenly overrule an otherwise f***house first class career

SA is hardly a spinner's paradise, why would he go there? Truth is, outside the SCG, there are no spinning wickets in Australia. Agar just needs to hone his craft so he can get wickets at most away games and pick up one or two at the WACA.

Contrary to the BF sheep think bandwagon he actually isn't that good, the selectors understand this and didn't pick him, amazing I know.
This makes it sound more definitive than it probably was. I mean, the same selectors have bent over backwards to make him a fixture in the OD team, and the coach has all but said he's not far away. They simply preferred Marsh

Agar was the third best spinner in that shield match btw. Got better figures because of the lol nsw ending but, from my eyes, he was outperformed by O'Keefe and Somerville in that match.

not that it mattes greatly

Well it's not at the moment but that's cos SA lack a quality spinner and have 4 decent fast bowlers.

He seems very happy at WA so I'm not suggesting hes out the door. But 5 games at the waca & 1 at the GABBA each year, puts a lot of pressure on your 4 away games that might take some turn. assuming you don't miss one playing some T20 nonsense for australia.

Is he under any pressure?

It's obviously not hindering him at the selection table.

No but there's a difference between performing your way into the team vs getting picked on ability despite lack of performance.

I just think it would be better for his development to put himself in the position of being a key bowler for his team on turning decks.

The WACA clearly limits his chances to showcase his talent. Maybe with a year or two of good performance he gets considered as allrounder in all test series not just indian tour support.
