I'm going to the 1st Test (Pune) and the 4th Test (Dharamsala). The order of the Tests changed from what was initially proposed, I was always going to go to Dharamsala, and it just depended on the timing of the other Tests as to what I would go to. Don't care for Ranchi but would have been nice to get to Bangalore. But between the 1st and 4th Tests I have some volunteer work to do in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Australia’s XI for tour game against India A: David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith (capt), Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Mitch Marsh, Matthew Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Steve O’Keefe, Jackson Bird, Nathan Lyon.

Should Khawaja be concerned about his spot?

Fantastic first 5 imo. I can understand the reasoning on MMarsh, as long as he actually bowls over to relieve the quicks. Shame the 2 main quicks arent bowling but l spose they don't want to overload them. Ver surprised Agar isn't there. Common sense has prevailed with Khawaja, he just can't play spin.

I very much like that top 5, with Smith at 3 & splitting up the two right handers

Absolutely Khawaja should be worried, there's no reason to rest him from the game.

Why are you surprised Agar isn't there? He's not playing ahead of Okeefe and he's not playing as a test number 6/7 (Maxwell better in that role)

Would've rather a different batting order big time there.

Firstly S.Marsh has just lost the opening spot but is still in the team which he should be btw but given it looks like we're dropping our number three wouldn't it make more sense to leave Smith where he was and bat S.Marsh three?

Secondly M.Marsh is not as good as Wade or Maxwell with the bat. I'd have there order reversed tbh. I'm not a fan of the keeper at six which would give Maxwell the number six spot between the three but M.Marsh is genuine number eight at test level so I can overlook by hate of keepers batting at six for that. But in all honestly the reason I hate the keeper batting at six is that it means you don't have six test quality batsmen. You need this to win a lot of test matches IMO. The keepers batting is just a bonus. Sure he won us plenty of games but even Gilly was at seven and we still had six test quality batsmen. India might not do it but between Jedaja and Ashwin there's your sixth batsman. Doesn't work for us because our tail aren't nearly as good as those two. If we were going to try this approach you need to give Agar or Maxwell a game as well at 8. Agar I wouldn't mind but Maxwell firstly bowls off spin like Lyon and secondly isn't a frontline spinner.

Hopefully the selectors aren't going to guarantee him a spot.

To a degree I get what you are saying. However I see the sense in going Right, left, right, right, left hander from 3-7. Need less left handers in a row as humanly possible, Ashwin will roll us otherwise. Think Smith and SMarsh will switch and chance at 3 and 4 defending on the circumstances anyway

Agar got 70 something not out and 4 wickets in the intraclub. Who knows with Maxwell, he could be amazing or a complete bust on this tour. Still would have played Agar to see how he went against spinners in these conditiions .

Surely Starc and Hazlewood play the 1st test, so they are just testing out the rest of the allrounders/bowlers as to who gets the last spot or 2.
Yeah, assuming noone has an embarrassing performance in the warm up game 1st test xl will be
Renshaw
Warner
Smith
S Marsh
Handscomb
M Marsh / Maxwell
Wade
Starc
O'Keefe
Hazlewood
Lyon

Which is a fairly conservative start. Once they get into the series & if things aren't working that's when blokes like Agar & Swepson will be considered

Agar isn't a test number 6, no matter how you spin it. He's a number 8. Okeefe is better in that role, his bowlingnis a mile better.

Maxwell isn't a test #3 either yet that happened last time. Anything can happen in india.
Surely we've learnt our lesson there. Maxwell at 6 I'm okay with. I'd rather take a gamble on him than play Khawaja who is terrible against spin. It's a punt but we can do it if we have SMarsh, Handscomb and Warner in our top 6, and I'm confident on Renshaw too.

I know Okeefe is better. But the choices for no. 6 are Marsh, Maxwell and Agar. Atm, we have no idea how any of them will perform in these conditions so l would have thought a bat off would be good in these conditions.

Ok didn't look into that but still surely Maxwell is better than M.Marsh with the bat. Probably signals that M.Marsh is playing first test and Maxwell is only in the side due to us resting Starc and Hazlewood and there being only one other quick in the squad.

Now I think of it we could even bat O'Keefe ahead of Starc and have right, left, right, left etc all the way down except the openers.
