I've been following Australian cricket since 1970. I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of all wrist spinners who have played f-c cricket in Australia since then (including lefties). I'm not sure why I thought it would be interesting, other than the fact that we seem to have produced lots of them over the years. I'll start the list off with a few from each state, with chinamen being asterisked, feel free to add:

Craig Howard for Vic.

Cam Boyce is a leggie isn't he, playing for the Bulls now? Also Dan Doran over the last couple of years

Peter McIntyre for SA/Vic

The forgotten man even though he played a test only a couple of years back  Beau Casson for NSW/WA

Would you count Shawn Craig for Vic? Was probably more an all rounder but you've included Bevan so...

Cullen Bailey for SA

David Freedman* from NSW, who Sherb did not include

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/5256.html

dave hourn would give him a run for his money

http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/player/5710.html

pretty similar records. got a mention from AB on the shield final last year as the best player he played with/against not get a test.

while were talking about leg spinners what do people reckon of our prospects.

aside from steve smith the only guy playing first class cricket (i can think of of the top of my head) is cameron boyce who is a real talent, and has had his most productive year to date which has seen his average dip into the 30's. techincally he looks good, but my biggest concern is something he won't be able to fix. he's tiny. now spin doesn't rely on being a big burly blokes, but it doesn't hurt. warne's size (early on) was well documented, and stuart macgill isn't exactly the smallest bloke going around.

nevertheless his progress this year has been bloody good to watch and if he keeps it going for the entire summer, he could well be next cab of the rank in the spin cycle.

there's two other kids who i watched bowl last year for the NSW 2nd XI and i reckon they both have something to work with - Adam Zampa, and in particular, Nathan Brain.

Both are super young, Zampa 20 early next year and Brain just turned 20.

Zampa i didn't see much off and he had the bigger wraps about him but he didn't bowl well for the 4 overs i saw. But on the basis of that i'm not going to go to far.

Brain on the other hand bowled well, even though Rob Quiney and Tom Stray took to him a bit. Not sure why Quiney was playing second XI considering he nearly topped the shield run scoring last year (as a sidenote i never realised how hard he quiney hit it till seeing him live). But he had a nice compact action and flighted the ball well and was coming on to bowl at two blokes who had already put on about 120 or so runs, and would end up putting on a 200+ run partnership.

Coming into this season he had done real well in first grade for campbelltown with 21 wickets at 30 in 08/09, 34 wickets at 29 in 09/10, and 25 wickets at 34 in 10/11. Not so good this year with only 10 wickets at 38, but it's still early in the season. But a 20 year old leg spinner with 90 wickets at 32 to his name in first grade cricket is nothing to sneeze at imo. definately one to keep an eye on.

LeLoux is genuine allrounder, has a first grade triple hundred to his name. Jake Hannan is another promising leg spinner currently playing grade cricket for West Brisbane.

NSW - Adrian Tucker

A contemporary of Warne's who was touted for big things. Never really met the expectations demanded of him, but also focused more on his career as an equities trader. Made news in 2004 when he played a first-class game after a decade's absence.

Maxwell is a young bloke playing for Vic that is listed as a leg spin bowler. Handy with the bat as well. Never seen him live so a little help here please.
