A bit of a meh effort but some players didn't start (Italiano etc). Some goal by Bahrain though.

Syria next. Comments section of FFA's Facebook posts about this game will no doubt bring out the *******s.

With Japan not progressing does that make the 3rd place play off basically a decider for Olympic qualification?

Should add some extra interest to that match.

Japan already in as they are hosting the Olympics.

and that leaves three qualifying places from this tournement, which should mean the third place match is an elimination game for Olympics qualification.

Or was it four places (ignoring Japan) meaning all the semi finalists will qualify?
Edit: Just checked and definitely top 3 so that 3rd place play-off has a little more weight than they usually would.

It's so imperative that we continue to put ourselves on the global stage. World Cup, Olympics and U20/U17 World Cups qualification every time should be the goal and the expectation. Good result tonight- wins a win, really hope we qualify from here.

One more win and we're going to the Olympics. Have about as much chance of a medal as a white sprinter in the 100m but still it would be nice to be there.

* we're tough to watch though.

Deng and Piscopo left out.

Glover
Cleur Mourdokoutas Ryan Gersbach
Baccus O'Neill
Buhagiar Metcalfe Italiano
Toure

Live streamed on youtube now if you don't have fox etc.

Final score - South Korea 2 : 0 Australia
Aussies simply outclassed, they now need to beat the Uzbeks on Saturday to qualify for the olympics.

Not the result we wanted but still another chance

Just watched the replay. Not wanting to be harsh (and I know McGree, Wales etc unavailable) but is that literally the best group of Under 23 Australian players currently available anywhere on the planet?

Two shots on goal for the entire contest?

Pretty much.. Arnold's style isn't to pretty on the eye either. I can see what he is trying to implement but the cattle as you said isn't there.
The final third is the problem if fact it has been the problem for a very long time now. You look at the A-league not many young Aussie strikers coming through other than MacLaren and possibly Taggat maybe Nabbout yeah we are scrapping the barrel, no one else comes to mind.
Worrying times.

It's amazing. Has been highest junior participation sport in the country for quite a while but we can't seem to generate anything much in the way of top line quality.

Interesting piece here referencing Josip Skoko and his take on things:

Participation numbers are only good for dick measuring contests, they mean sweat FA if you do nothing with them! The problem is investment and implementing a true curriculum in identifying talent. Not gauging parents $$$ just to make your child participate to no effect!

Good read! Skoko is on the money but we knew all that already I wanna know what are we gonna do about it? what are the solutions? I'll post that article in the Football Australia general thread.

Should still be good enough to beat the Uzbeks.

Fair play to them they weren't much better than Uzbekistan but they were good enough.
