Review Autopsy - Pies Too Hot for Freo

There was a small moment in the first half where Serong kicked a ball i50 to Amiss but the kick was about 10-15m too wide and amiss had to stretch and failed to take the mark. Ball up, all after a great bit of approach play by the team.

That little moment summed up the difference between Caleb (a player in probably the top 20-30 ranked players in the game) and the really great players of the modern game.

If it’s Bont, Daicos, Merrett even Pendlebury - kicking that ball i50, amiss is lining up a shot at goal 30m out on the angle.

For all the great work Serong does, you just cannot say he’s one of the true superstars of the comp with kicking like that. It’s happens all too often.

To be fair that has happened pretty much the whole of Dangerfields career and he is a superstar

Just checking in to see if JL has been sacked? If not, I’ll be on my way
People need to start thinking logically about this. The board is the group that makes the decision. Do you think they are going to convene on a Thursday night at 10pm after the game to sack him? If it's unanimous across the board, they will call a meeting at the beginning of next week during their standard 9-5 work hours. History says they won't make a decision until the bye.

I hate to use this as an example, but.....

Carlton would have.

Pius, Friday is a workday. Use those 9 hours to convene and make the decision.

Unfortunately, this is probably correct.

Will be at the bye. (hopefully)

go 0-3 and I think he's gone.

go 1-2 then beat north, they'll likely wait a bit longer.

go better than that and we're stuck.

If you work a white collar job you know that no-one has meetings on a Friday 😂
Sure we do.

They're just a lunch meeting.

at the pub.

at 10am.

and no work is discussed.

Bye at the absolute earliest. Probably far more likely once we can't make finals anymore.

Look it sucks. But the players really need to own up to this and realise it’s a whole list to choose from other then Young.
The midfield forwards and defence have hardly any injuries. Walker is one. But it’s still reasonable. Young is another but he’s replaceable. Fyfe, Walters, JOM, Aish aren’t the future so they don’t count.

4-5. GWS are not unbeatable, Port at home isn’t either then Gold Coast.
Try and go to the break 7-6, 6-7. And reset. It’s a very close competition. You don’t give up at 4-5. Melbourne are 3-5 and still talking about finals.

Changes have to be made though. Have to question the value of Darcy for Fremantle with Switkowski.

Switch up the players. Add in NOD. See what Erasmus is made of.

Carlton have steered away from that lately. Teague got sacked at the end of his 3rd year on a Thursday before the finals bye. They were 8-14 and finished 13th. Voss has got a fair bit of rope at various stages and seems to be able to turn it around for patches.

But previous to that

Bolton was sacked Rd 11, 2nd of June after Essendon defeated them 74 to 33 (That score looks familiar). This was during his 4th season and they were 1-10 at the time. It was done on Monday morning after the Sunday game. He was also on a full time "employee" contract.

They won't sack Jlo any time soon unless we get flogged Saints style by a team under us. Maybe by North in rd 14 or if Saints do it twice in front of our fans in rd 15.

I don’t think Amiss reacts quick enough. The kick wasn’t that bad he was just to slow to alter his lead and mark. You see it with quick kicks in to the 50, he just gets beaten to the drop constantly. There was a passage in the first quarter where I posted if he needs his eyes checked!

Yeah but danger is just a little bit better at all the other things that make a great mid than Caleb. He’s bigger and stronger and I think he’s more of a clutch moments guy.
He’s also kicked over 300 goals in his career - actually they are not comparable, at all.

That’s not a slight on Caleb as danger is arguably in the top 5 players of the last 25 years. What he’s doing this year is utterly ridiculous.

I just wish Caleb could find a way to take a split second to compose himself and improve his kicking, not all the time but in moments where the opportunity arises and he is in the clear. He missed an eminently kickable goal in the first half too that would have really turned the screw on them.

I actually think a new coach and fresh voice could unlock another few percent of improvement in him. Yet another reason to get rid of JL.

If you are having meetings at the pub at 10 am I will quit my job and come work for you.
haha. Not anymore I'm afraid. Did enjoy that while it lasted.

A very good game of footy last night.
Freo had their chances, but sadly the field kicking let them down. A couple of switches to the open side were lost by a kick that was too short. But the Pies worked the switch out.
To me a real plus last night was the fact thatCooper Simpson stamped himself as a handy, more than handy player.
He thinks the game through and has great footskills.
His kick at about the half way mark of the final quarter to Deadly Dudley was a thing of grace.Sadly, Deadly couldn't convert.

I don't disagree but I think on the balance of our performances since basically last July, we're trending in one very clear direction. I'm sure we'll pick up an unexpected win or two over the next couple of months but there's a persistent pattern emerging which is reflective of Longmuir's inability to turn things around.

The players absolutely share a lot of the blame but ultimate responsibility rests with the head coach. If we'd made finals last year, there'd be much more belief in Longmuir's ability to get them back on track. The fact we're relatively healthy yet still find ourselves sitting with a negative record after the easiest part of our fixture speaks volumes.

As it stands he's got a poor track record and the issues that have plagued this team for years are still present. It's rough that he'll probably lose his job while plenty of others who have been consistently underperforming keep theirs, but it's the nature of the game.

Yeah Longmuir will coach that outta him.
