Cheers, but that slow stutter game thing plan, we have doing for 4 years & it's really affecting the players to the point they are seemingly more devoid of confidence than last year.Pardon the intrusion, I happened to watch this one and with no particular love for Freo was hoping you'd win it.
I've read all the player by player comments on these threads and I don't know the team well enough to suggest differently. However I do think two things happened last night that hurt regardless of personnel and would make players hesitate and look ordinary.
The Collingwood structure is a nightmare. You see your players kicking to 3 pies players and one small forward and think wtf is going on. It's a real pain in the arse and for that that watched last week's first half it made the Cats look putrid.
Then layer onto that you guys seemed to want to play differently but, to my eye, it wasn't familiar. I'd watched a bit of your preseason tape, the match sim recordings etc and I didn't see the style you tried last night. I think It was Jordan Lewis who showed some examples where a quicker release would help and at times when you got it going it looked great. However there were lots of times players looked hesitant about where the next option was, or played quickly to poor options. I think it was part Pies part trying something different.
It's easy to say without the emotional investment but Freo have some serious players in that team. Play that same game, effort and intensity, you probably beat 12 teams, likely more. Will it win a flag? Probably not if you are figuring out a brand mid season. Is the coach right? I'd minimum look at the forwards coach. Do you have some of the most exciting players in the game? Yes. Should you play Will Brodie? Unless he's a serial killer I'm going to say you need someone strong with midfield craft.
My highlights:
Cooper Simpson - I'm smitten by him. He's limited in size, looks faster than he possibly is, but there's something about how he moves and uses the ball at times. Desperately don't want to make this comparison because he's not him, but I get little echoes of Judd in him. Last night a couple of moments go the other way, kick to Frederick's, the run down, taking the shot from 50 instead of chipping and he has a very good night.
Clark - Star. Ed Richards went into the middle for the dogs and became something else. Clark is the next most likely in the comp to be capable of that transition. Whether you want to do that I'm unsure. Had the strangest scuffle with Daicos where they appeared to finish best friends. Made me laugh.
Treacy - he was bleeding properly. Braver and tougher than I realised. Will enjoy watching him more.
Wont go into Amiss, Darcy, Chapman or some of the others you've all covered as negatives.
Best of luck with the rest of the season. Hope you don't drop Simpson and he becomes the best version of himself because it'll be scintillating viewing.

This is such a well balanced response. Please stop by more often.Pardon the intrusion, I happened to watch this one and with no particular love for Freo was hoping you'd win it.

If we don't make finals he won't be the coach next year.Everyone from the CEO down to the players are delusional. JL is going nowhere. Can almost guarantee he'll be here next season too.
I think JL was so concerned about being scored on after turnovers they were all instructed to hold on to the ball, not play on and try and find precise kicks. Only trouble is we turned it over anyway and got scored on easily. The players look confused. Clark of all people got the ball in a mile of space on Thursday, then stopped dead and waited. Too many times the players choose not to take the game on and the oppo set up in front of the ball.
If we don't make finals he won't be the coach next year.
Honestly when has bringing a caretaker coach other than a dead cat bounce made any significant difference. It’s way too early to be making the sack call.We are chest deep in quicksand until the club pull the trigger and end JL's tenure. We've seen more than enough to know it's not working. The sooner the better because the more games the boys can play this season unlearning this dour and negative gameplan the better off we will be when the new coach comes in.
Christ almighty.

As I posted on another thread the selection of a long term coach is not an off the shelf gut feel selection.
All this talk about emergency board meetings and the like is rubbish. Yes that might happen later in the year if the season is shot.
The Board and CEO have put out there the expectation and that is finals. If the coach doesn’t meet that expectation and after failing the last two years then it is time to move on.
For now they need to work through the funk and try and get their game going.
This rolling contract that JL demonstrates that he is under pressure to perform.
Sacking him now will result in nothing more than a caretaker. For all we know some very good candidates could become available at the end of the season like Luke Beveridge. Otherwise due diligence and detailed selection process needs to be taken. As if John Longmire would put his hand up mid season. No one wants a caretaker role it is like a poisoned chalice. They need a pre-season to embed game style change.
Talking up how the board have no balls and need to cut him now before the season is wasted blah blah is just stupid talk. Yes the season might be wasted if we get another 8 weeks down the track and finals cannot be achieved. Appointing a caretaker coach is not going to change that except potentially a sugar hit and then back to crapola, whilst likely hurting the chance of caretaker’s future ambitions.

Clark saying we're proud of that is so disgusting it's actually insulting to fans
So, it’s three-quarter time, we're down by three goals, and need to chase the game. The ruckman’s been subbed off for fresh legs.
Each quarter’s about 30 minutes, including time on.
But Erasmus only plays 16 minutes. What’s the point of even bringing him on with that little time on ground?
ThanksPardon the intrusion, I happened to watch this one and with no particular love for Freo was hoping you'd win it.

It's not confined to Thursday's game. We're too easily shut down. Trying to slowly pick our way through set defences is a tough way to live.I think JL was so concerned about being scored on after turnovers they were all instructed to hold on to the ball, not play on and try and find precise kicks.
