30 pts is about par for the way we played, nothing overly impressive or surprising from the result. Low intensity + injuries early, result was a given from the 1st quarter.

Robinson, Yarran pathetic. Gibbs shockingly unaccountable. Waite played far too cute, but at least worked hard. Rucks and our top shelf mids handed their arses by harder working battlers. No spread, field kicking dismal. So much to dislike.

To be honest I wouldn't of done the same to them.

I've never stooped that low in more than 40 years of following Carlton (there have been plenty of opportunities to do so during that time). It says a lot about the mentality of those footy supporters who can't wait to rub it in. Perhaps they are making up for their own inadequacies.

murphy: lacked his usual polished, had no support
judd: didnt dominate but was there when needed
garlett: could have done a lot more
betts: minimal oppurtunites, should have slotted that set shot in third
bower: out, thornton in
duigan: looked a bit slow and out of sorts, will need more game time
scotland: wasnt as good as last week
waite: needs delivery above wormburners
robinson: intensity was always there, should have been closer to judd
hampson: out, warnock in
kreuzer: kick the bloody ball to him
gibbs: more run in the midfield needed
carrazzo: quick and safe recovery
simpson: bright light
curnow: looked hesitant like when he did his shoulder, holding on to a spot
mclean: i have seen faster snails
laidler: would have been a lot more effective without the niggle
jamison: head held high, not as high as hendo
tuohy: aggressive, but effective
yarran: quick and safe recovery
henderson: best on ground
lucas: out, walker in

Already had 2 essendon mates try to ring/text but i'm not responding :(
They think they've won the grand final ffs
Well, beating Carlton in the H&A season is like a Grand Final win for them. :)

Pathetic effort.
Burned easy shots on goal.
Missed Carrazzo something shocking, and also Armfield.
Can't play Brock and Curnow at the same time. We lose too much pace.

Hopefully we might have Army and Walker back next week. If not, we need AJ's pace.

swapping the slowest bloke in the afl...for one of the fastest guys at our club..against a very fast team was NEVER a good idea.

McLean should be traded back to Melbourne at years end. I dont care how well he plays in the VFL, hes too slow for afl, especially in a Carlton team based on speed.

Wont be supprised if we lose next week too. Carrazzo missing is a huge loss.

Thought we were flat and tried to be a bit to pretty with the ball, like you do when you think you are going to walk all over the opposition.

Still waiting to see Bryce Gibbs assert himself on a football game. Floating around playing quarter back is lovely, but the guys got far too much talent to just let the game come to him like he does. Hope he's got it in him.

Massive gamble by ratts today which didn't pay off.

He backed our blockes to be able to play to the same game plan under adverse circumstances.

In fututre i'd like to see us go after the contested ball. (if we begin losing contested ball then we adopt a more defensive structure to get us back into that department) Today, when we starteted losing in this department i would have liked betts or garlett to come up the ground to try and balance this stat.

Hird did a number on ratts today. He recognised that limiting our ability to score within 40m will limit our total ability to score. Injuries did hurt but I would have liked to see 2E come up the ground to allow us to score from 35 to 60 out.

mind you kicking skills were noticeably bad from the outset and losing this game was a possibility all day. Not happy that we lost but it does highlight areas in our game plan which can improve. Lets get back on it blue boys beet the shi* out of the dockers next week.

Go blues

Essendon got too much ball over the top of the zone allowing them to run in behind our players and into the open goal.

In: Armfield (if fit), Ellard, Joseph and maybe Collins
Out: Mclean, curnow, carrazzo (if injured), Yarran (if injured)

Looked far too slow and didn't hunt the ball. Essendon did to us what we did to Collingwood

Guys, according to the Club Walker is at LEAST another week away - he will not be playing firsts next week.

Would like to see Warnock if ready.

The most exciting prospect for our current style of playing is Bootsma - the youngest bloke on our list.

I Armfields contribution is now apparent.

Too many players like the smell of their own farts. Massive reality check.

If we don't bounce back next week say goodbye to top 4.

Utterly disappointed with todays effort.

Robinson, Yarran, Waite clear stand out worst on ground. Only Murphy, Hendo and Simpson seemed to give a damn.

What frustrates me as well is the umpiring. Whilst it had absolutely no part in us losing, their calls were all over the shop and did not show the slightest bit of consistency.

Congratulations to an Essendon team that did us a favour and showed up some hard truths early in the season

I can easily throw up a bunch of criticisms - but I prefer to think that playing with no bench for most of the game may have had something to do with the loss on the day...realistically - Curnow/Laidler both playing on one leg as was Yarron. Duigan not yet match fit - same for Jamison.

Would have been a different game if the forwards knew how to kick a set shot. Would have been a lot closer if McClean and Bower weren't on the filed.

Disappointed in Gibbs in this game and Hampson - very disappointed.

Huge game and effort from L Henderson.

Lets not get too down.

Looking forward to the rematch guys. Good year when both our teams are up and about. Game was won/lost between the ears like alot of clashes between our clubs. Not a personnel issue really.

Good luck next week.

Pitiful performance. We looked slow and lethargic, exactly as we did in the preaseason.

I'm wondering if our players are struggling to run and spread in the heat but whatever the case, the lack of effort and intensity was incredibly disappointing.

For a team who's been one of the hardest tackling sides all year, I was bemused by how easily Essendon got the ball into space and the loose numbers they had around the contest.

Mclean is too slow. Doesn't fit in with the gameplan. His spread is a detriment. Laidler was clearly troubled by the knee and lacked agility and speed. Carrazzo was a big loss. Thornton is better option than Bower with his ability to go forward and actually do something.

well at least there still are some respectful supporters on winning teams still, compared to that moron who is spamming this post
