Mclean was better than a number of players today, lets not head hunt him.

Robinson disgracefully selfish today. Yarran no defensive accountability. Everyone struggled pretty much bar Henderson.

Agree with this. It is too easy to single McLean out when the reality is that a number of our talented younger players let us down today.

Yarran looked totally out of sorts & Garlett hardly gave a yelp for the entire game.

Too many players played like millionaires today, instead of making sure they got the basics right. As well, there was not enough running in support of each other & our work rate was quite slack. At times players were just jogging.

At the end of the day though, you are going to lose games throughout the season (remember Essendon knocked off Geelong last year), you just have to make sure you learn from those losses & they make you better. It is a long season & what happens in Round 4 doesn't have to have any impact on your overall achievements for the season.

We still have a list capable of playing very good football. That hasn't changed. We put today behind us & focus on Freo next week. If we put in a performance next week, like Essendon did against us today, we will have a good win.

As an aside and as bad as we were, that was the most pathetic coverage of a footy game I have ever seen. Not sure which of the two play by play commentators it was, but one of the morons would have gotten 70% of the names wrong on the call.

Never mind the pointless references, lack of any excitement, horrible camera angles and no replays. You'd have thought Murph's goal warranted a replay. Couldn't believe we didn't get a close up of Laidler's injury.

Embarrassing call.

Still waiting to see Bryce Gibbs assert himself on a football game. Floating around playing quarter back is lovely, but the guys got far too much talent to just let the game come to him like he does. Hope he's got it in him.
I guess you have a short memory.

Gibbs was the least of our problems.

No reason to make idiotic suggestions that we need to trade Bryce for Dangerfield. These supporters shouldn't be allowed near animals, let alone a footy club as managers of people. The usual suspects were absent after we won the first three games.
Utterly disappointed with todays effort.

Robinson, Yarran, Waite clear stand out worst on ground. Only Murphy, Hendo and Simpson seemed to give a damn.
Scotland has been average this year.

Kreuzer had a shocker, but that happens to everyone.

Rucks aren't that bad.
What frustrates me as well is the umpiring. Whilst it had absolutely no part in us losing, their calls were all over the shop and did not show the slightest bit of consistency.
They got the benefit of the umpiring because they were first to the ball.

If you drop off one per cent, kick poorly and get hit hard by injuries early, then you're toast.

Bombers had their shocker last week with the Suns pushing them hard.

Ratten didn't react well to Thompson's coaching today.

Thornton should have been picked to play as the lead up forward. Our forwardline functions with two mobile marking targets plus the rucks and Walker.

Yes indeed, not mad on the 'five minutes in, Kirk has a chat to <insert name> mother or father bollocks, either.

Agreed.

The loss was bad but i found it very difficult to get excited during the game, felt like i was watching the Foxtel cup or something. Really poor commentary.

I dont recall suggesting anything of the sort.

I mentioned Gibbs because like Carlton, he has been talked up massively all through the pre season. I'm just waiting to see him grab a game by the scruff and just run with it, i'm sure he's done it in the past.... but if he's as good as we all think he is then he needs to do it more often.

Worst Offenders:
*Robinson - Specialised in appalling kicks into the forward 50, either hit an Essendon player on the chest, or blasted away without even looking.
*Waite - just missed everything - if you cant kick goals you are a waste of space on the forward line.
*Brock Maclean - too slow, just can't make the grade in a game plan built on speed - if he's in the side we're going to have a bad day.
*Yarran - Not unusual for him to get a slight hammy late in the game if we're losing. Doesn't tough it out like the leaders.

Invisible Man award to Garlett, Gibbs, Curnow, Hampson and others I just can't remember..

Pace has to be pace, not youth and inexperience.

Need Thornton not Bower, the only experienced backman we have.

Showed us up for depth on the teamlist today.

Mclean is too slow. Doesn't fit in with the gameplan. His spread is a detriment.
As much the lack of speed in his decision making as his inability to run hard and pick a man up. Mclean gave out a lot of handballs to players who were flat footed. We lacked run today, but he should still be better by hand.

Mclean is not an AFL player. FFS why cant people see this? too slow not good enough even when in space

Bower needs to be dropped for thornton. Thornton can do the same role, better, and go forward. Bowers decision making, line breaking and kicking all make me cringe. get rid of him.

Everyones skills today were well below par and must be worked on this week.

Not sure what to make of Lucas. Found a lot of ball but didnt always use it well or make the right decisions. I think i can be confident enough in him improving on this performance though

Berisha made that idiotic suggestion.

All of our sweepers struggled today.

disagree. his ball use was still not good enough. i distinctly remember him in space with 2 bombers running at him and had someone open, he tried to loop a handball over that got swatted away instead of opening up a better angle. not good enough. sick of him. bower too.

Yep just put his team mates under pressure when they were least expecting it, remember one he gave to Scotland a foot away when Scotland was going to shepherd and the subsequent turnover cost a goal.

Cant afford to have players who cant make good decisions and not man up or pressure,

Why are the Mods shutting down the game day threads, we ought to keep them open and cop every bit of abuse coming to us. I flew down for the game. Dont think I have seen them dish out such shite in a long time. I posted to the game day thread from my phone as I walked out of the ground but it was already closed when my post got through. I responded to MSR's warning and said he can give me my yellow card now, because that was a shameful display from a top rated team. Shameful. Could not find a Carlton player in the top 10 on the ground and they have a second rate list. It doesnt get more shameful that that. A pea hearted effort.

If you're going to drop blokes who had shockers today, we're going to have 3 or 4 players next week, at most. Brock struggled, but he was not the worst.

Hiccups will come and will always be a part of footy (see last few years with Premiers being knocked off...and 95 when St K and Syd beat us!!)

Interesting though that this was the theme of the week - to NOT get ahead of ourselves.
Many of our experienced blokes had shockers - Waite's fumbling and poor conversion, Simpson's woeful kicking (please don't peel of stats that say he's a good kick), Gibbs intensity are only a few glaring issues.

Today we failed to follow the team rules of pressure and commitment and we got burnt. No excuses.
Why couldn't Robbo cover for Carrots, Why did we allow Ess to outnumber us at every contest, Why did we make so many poor decisions????

The problem with a performance like that is that in a season where there will be little separating teams vying for the top 4, it could prove costly.

Our rucks were absolutely monstered today by bellchambers and ryder. the mids were terrible as well. I lay little to not much blame on our fwds or backs. both were given poor service by the midfield.

Outplayed, outworked, outclassed ...........reality check we should take and move on.

i cant recall one time i have been impressed by a game brock has played for carlton. its the same inconsistent shit every time. nothing is new and there is no improvement.

HE IS A VFL PLAYER AND A GOOD ONE AT THAT

He (Lucas) was very good in the first quarter, set up a goal with some genuine hunger for the pill, and was heavily involved.

Tapered off badly in the last 3qtrs.

Not convinced.

Still perplexed as to how Bower is in team before Thornton, based on Thornton flexibility to play back and forward gives him a significant advantage to the team, Bower is purely a defender, he has no flexibility when the team is off like today and structural changes need to be made when was evident today when things needed to be changed.

Dropping Bower for Thornton came and bit us on the arse today. He can't mark and isn't as crafty as Bird.

Scotto and Simpson IMO have not had an ideal start to the season, Scotland especially looks to be lumbering around.

Robinson and Lucas lacked so much vision, Robinson's i50 being worse than Sugar's two missed shots at goal in a crucial period.

That started from a bad kick from Yarran. TG was spot on with his observation.

Because the Game is over.

Autopsy thread now takes over like it does every week and the Game day thread is seldom open for lengthy amounts of time after the game has finished.

Keep the Mod gripes to P.M and you have been told this before and this will not be discussed again with you.
