The onus of stability at the club.

Its been rough.
2019 Sack Brad
2020 Hub Disaster
2021 Noble despite his inability to coach has some glimmers of hope
2022 Hope is gone so is Noble
2023 Clarko gone and back, we have makeshift stability.

It would be pretty significant to go 18-24 months where there was stability off field. Where our coach was our coach and there wasn't speculation surrounding everything.

It will be as if not more important than any of the talent we bring in.
Add in the TT issue - off and on field and sonjas illness. Mixed with key injuries - logue, ldu, wardlaw - it has been the season from hell in so many ways - none of it “self inflicted” by list management as trolls keep pushing.

I'm struggling for positives tbh.

Richmond were ripe for the taking yesterday. They were surprisingly listless for a team sending off a couple of their champions.

Outside WC and us, any other team would have rolled them yesterday.

Like the Cats, they're cooked and Port are going to smash them next week unfortunately.

We couldn't put Essendon away. Look at them. Add them to the toasted list. Fell in against us and WC - who we couldn't beat - and got torn a new one by GWS - who are battling to make it into the top 8.

We need to turn the joint upside down over Summer.

Anything less, we're kidding ourselves.

Just on this, I do agree with the sentiment that the bar is so low as supporters now that a 5 goal loss wasn't upsetting.

However it was easy to visualise a scenario where Richmond went on a party time spree, kicking goals for fun ("and Riewoldt is going out in style! That's his 9th!") and piling it on to go over 100 points.

In that context I was relieved we mostly competed hard and gave them a few challenges. Was bracing for much, much worse.

That's not to suggest it was a pleasant outcome though.

Thought it was a really impressive game from Tarryn & Souv.

Not much else besides that. Been a tough year. Injuries haven't helped.

Hopefully it is crystal clear to Viney that we have too many players that cannot execute the fundamentals. Senior players that cannot need to be removed.

This will be the interesting off season. Full season of this football department in charge – the delistings, trade and then pre season will be fascinating and I’m expecting big changes. Hoping that this is finally the path upwards from 2024, even if it is still a rocky one.

It sure will be.

It's an opportunity to shape the list to how we want to play. Hawthorn is used as a comparison quite a bit, but what Mitchell has done well is he identified how they want to play and has drafted/recruited players accordingly. This is really hard to achieve when you have no continuity in personnel & system, which has been the case throughout our rebuild.

Hindsight is great, but if you're going to rebuild you need the right pillars of the club. We have had 4 years of shifting goal posts prior to this year. Different coaches, President, GMs & CEO's with different visions. Over that period, we've had Scott, Buckley, Joyce, Shaw, Rawlings, Macpherson, Amarfio & now Viney, Clarkson, Hood & Watt, all responsible for the strategy. It's no surprise what has been the result.

The most important thing for us as a footy club now is to have the same people (who are actually competent) in the job for long enough to effect change.

Thought it was a really impressive game from Tarryn & Souv.

His game was funny. Maybe a sign of him having progressed to another level as a player.

He kicked 6 goals but was really poor in a few contests. There are mitigating factors (fatigue, only viable target etc) but it wasn't one of his best games on output (imo) but was statistically.

Pretty confident that TT will hand in a trade request.
Not confident that the club will do the right thing which is only consider if the offer is very, very good. I could see the peanuts taking an early second rounder or something for him which would be embarrassing.
I sure as hell hope not and would be bitterly disappointing after all the club has done. The program they set up for him that he eventually completed was a godsend in court for him.

What makes you confident?

Last season.
Rumours.
His attitude.
Perceived lack of engagement.
His manager the reality tv flog.

Each to their own, i thought it one of his best easily. He presented far better than usual and took a number of one grabbers at the high point which is rare for him. One grabbers in general are.

Clarko reads BF. Some of us have been saying this for weeks.

Irrespective of whatever list changes will be coming up, if we can;
  • improve fitness
  • improve basic skills
  • reduce fumbles that slow down play

this will go a loooong way to helping us stay in games for longer and pushing for a result until the end.

And if we can somehow develop the mental composure to prevent the opposition getting a run on of about 5-6 goals in no time will help even more. Lost count of the amount of games this season (and past few years) where our opponents have won the game off the back of a 10-15 minute period of domination.

One or two years of normal competent operations will make a huge difference

I liken it to a round of golf.

You work so hard to birdie a couple of holes on the front nine then you blow up your card with a nine on the 10th.

Round over.
