There was less long kicking, more hitting intermediate targets.
Yep, shorter kicking, more diagonal kicking, stretching the Saints defence across the ground and keeping them moving, shifting, until we could progress further and further up the ground.

Nick Riewoldt commentating st kilda games . Hmmmmm

I thought he was a little like a typical ex-North player commentating a NM game. He seemed to be over compensating. I just can’t take to him in general - not because of any perceived favouritism towards his old team.

There were adjustments, you can see in the video they've blurred out the writing underneath "We are not clean".
My guess is there's some instructions on things to do in second half. I did notice that our players were a lot more organised in forward line, the ball rarely came out of our half.

I thought the blurred writing said " they're going nuts on big-footy "

This was my take pretty much. I don't think there was a plan B but rather they didnt execute Plan A in the first half. So the summary was - be clean and we win. Plan A wins.

I'm pretty certain Shaw has a Plan B if needed but if the players are tooling around and just need a kick in the backside to get them back on track, that can work also.
It's hard to execute plan A, B, C or Z if you're not clean with your ball handling and disposal. We we're constantly on the back foot because of it.

Once we we're able to execute the basics we were sweet. Everything was on our terms. It's disappointing that the season has been suspended because I reckon we could bludgeon teams if we execute well for long enough.

I put it down to first proper game adjustment.

Once we tuned in to the correct tempo, we were away.

There was less long kicking, more hitting intermediate targets.

That was definitely noticeable. But it was probably plan A. JZ for example. That first goal was because he lowered his eyes and kicked to the space in front of a target. It was if he checked his instincts and tried to play to instructions.

Spot on - if we'd kept fumbling and falling over in the second half and therefore kept allowing St Kilda to pressure, we would've continued to hack it forward/kick long. Instead being clean inside gave us the time and space to use the footy and hit targets - short and long and build confidence.

We barely had any clean footy in the first half to reveal a plan.

I'm invested, love this access to the inner sanctum, no panic at half time, despite the generally ordinary performance, and genuinely stoked at the result, like all of us, bring on the next game whenever/wherever.

Has to be part of next year’s membership slogan.

I love that there is evidence to directly contradict the troglodytes around here that think coaching is about being able to yell and abuse the players into playing better. Doesn't work.

Only 6 times in the club's history have we come from further behind at half time to win. In less time and with 3 out for the game. Fantastic effort.

That Sydney 1991 game is bizarre. We kept them to 14pts in the 2nd half after 120 in the 1st half, while we basically maintained our scoring rate.

That surprises me. You'd think we'd have done this more often, but in Marstermind we trust.

We overcome a five goal half time deficit only 6 times ever?

That’s crazy.

That list obviously doesn’t include the 40 point recovery against Sydney in Arch’s 250th.

The following stat is brought to you by Coronavirus Lockdown Cabin Fever Enterprises....

Was interested to see if our second half improvement coincided with any kind of significant change to the Mid centre square set ups. So with a chunk of spare time now suddenly at my disposal, I trawled through the replay to check it out.

Turns out we didn't do much differently in terms of personnel in the second half. Couple of tweaks and "small fixes". TT got a little more time in there, and Hall got used on a couple of occasions (Zurhaar, too), but probably the most interesting and significant observation I made was that Jed hardly attended a centre bounce in the second half. Make of that what you will.

Foxtel inexplicably omitted the first bounce of the game from the replay, but here's the totals (on centre bounces attended) for the remaining 18 centre bounces....

Cunners - 17/18
Jy - 11/18
Higgo - 11/18
Jed - 6/18
TT - 6/18
Hall - 2/18
Zurhaar - 1/18

Other stuff...

- The Dumont & Polec combo started on the Wing(s) on 14/18 occasions. (Ahern - 2/18, Hall - 2/18)
- Goldy won the centre hit-out 10/18 times.
- We won the centre square clearance 10/18 times. (Not necessarily the same times as above. Goldy winning the tap + us winning the clearance happened on only 6 occasions.)
- First half centre square clearances won - 4/9
- Second half centre square clearances won - 6/9

Cheers, all. Stay tuned for more stats as the cabin fever intensifies.

The umpires couldn't have tried harder to take that game from us in the last few minutes. I was f***ing fuming!

I disagree that they couldn't have tried harder....Take a close look at the tackle Cunners lays on Steele in the goal square with 50 seconds on the clock....hahaha sweet times
