Is George injured. Have to reward Phillips based on his last two games and George’s last two.

We cannot ever have Fisher Logue play for us again. They’re just here for the pay check. Offer absolutely nothing.

Based on the last 15 minutes when the game was won, it’s strange you’d have a go at those two guys.

P.S. 🤣 If we’d lost, I’d, probably, be agreeing with you, though…

How did 4 Umpires Miss Reid throwing Sheezel to the ground at that last stoppage?

Pretty easily really. They wanted to maintain the usual -10 free kick differential between us and our opponents. It worked, the end free kick count was 16 to 26 their way. Met their KPIs, they did, those "top-notch" adjudicators.

We've taken points in three of our last four games and only lost once. When was the last time you could say that?

I reckon it was 2019.
We won four straight in 19/20 - last two of 2019 and first two of 2020.

We've kind of forgotten about it because of how badly it all ended but Rhyce Shaw's tenure started with a 5-1 run, then three losses, then another 5-1 run.

I hope clarko isn’t feeding the players the same bullshit I’m reading on here.

Cannot understand how anyone can find any enjoyment or positives from that game.
I think the more useful term would be relief, we had to win this game speedy, at any cost, our skills today were fumbly and sloppy but we won, anytime you support a team no matter what, you hope and at times wish they can win. Sometimes you can play great football and lose and sometimes you can play not so good and win, you take it and focus on the next opponent and hope to improve.

If people focus too much on how we played when winning and don't get some enjoyment/relief then what is the point of supporting a team in any sport? Must you love the game today? The easy answer is no, but its never as clear cut as this, my god we won, never mind how or why, MY TEAM WON AND GOT THE CHOCOLATES, bank the 4 points and look to see what happens next week.

I have lost count how many times we should have won games only to lose them in the last 20 minutes, "God I wish we would have won", in our rebuild so many posters have posted this train of thought, well guess what, we won. Next opponent is the Dockers, who are hot & cold, will be an interesting match indeed.

How did Harley get away with throwing Sheezel to ground off the ball in last 15seconds? After what looked like a high shot, again off the ball, a few minutes earlier.
Sheezel doesn't normally react but he didn't like being thrown to ground. And Jy was pointing it out to umps.

Yes that was a dreadful game of football to watch. I missed the first quarter and by halfway through the third quarter I was resigned to the every increasing likelihood that for the first time ever, I might not see us live kick a goal. Thankfully a few players got going in the second half of the last quarter and turned things around.

Parker was huge with 10 disposals in that last quarter and without him we would not have won the game.

However, when you reflect back to our performances against *, Brisbane, Port Adelaide and Collingwood for three quarters, with an ounce or two of luck, we might have won a couple of those. In contrast, it was a desperate struggle to beat Richmond.

Which suggests to me that presently there is a fair bit of our performances being impacted by what's going on in the collective heads of the players. We have so many high draft picks and we should be playing better football than we are against the lower on the ladder teams. From a rebuild point of view, we should be well ahead of both the Tigers and the Eagles and that might just be putting too much mental pressure on a few of our players.

With the start we had, we should have gone right on with it and recorded a nice win, but we didn't.

Pleasingly though, two of our best, especially after half time, were McKercher and O'Sullivan. That can (hopefully) only augur well for better times ahead.

Of course, if we succumb meekly to Fremantle next week, my theory will be blown right out of the water. Oh well.

Pros:
  • Xerri continues to be the main reason we are competitive. He could take the rest of the season off and still win the Syd imo.
  • McKercher - 35 disposals with 88.6% DE - outstanding. He wasn't up to it five minutes ago and now look at him.
  • Simpkin and Zuhaar becoming more reliable and less prone to going missing - great to see. There is a version of Cam that would have bottled that kick, loving the new mindset.
  • Parker, LDU, Sheezel, FOS and probably a few others all played a role in getting us over the line.
  • MacDonald - the target of all our woes some weeks - really stood up and the way he organised the defence at stoppages was noticeable. In the context of the game (not getting ahead of myself) the defence was fairly good all day, especially considering Charlie went off.
  • Curtis - still rusty, kicked three anyway.

Cons:-
  • Comben. Where's the update? Super worried.
  • Logue - one tackle, seven intercepts. Not his worst but a long way from restoring confidence.
  • Larkey - I love the bloke and he deserves better entry but if he can't win a contested ball, is averaging one tackle and half a goal assist a game then his lack of game day value is a shared problem imo. It's not fair but neither is professional sport.

If my standards were higher I'd filthy with today's effort. If the game was 5% different we could have lost by ten goals.
It's like the club has the soul of an U9 footy team and any time things aren't clicking or the going gets tough we come off like a bunch of children wishing the siren would blow so we can point to the low margin and pretend that we gave it our all.

This problem that we have in our competitive psychology does a disservice to the talents we have at our disposal. In today's game I think 'it' happened about halfway through the second - the fumbles, the lack of running - it's utterly horrendous and we need to do better. If we achieve one thing this season, please let it be a permanent shift away from this mental frailty that has been holding us hostage for the past five years.

I am watching the replay … of the last quarter only!!

Great win … interstate, coming off the bye, playing badly, and facing a team that was highly motivated and looking for a win.

Could have easily just packed it in, but they didn’t!!

FOS, Sheezel, Wardlaw, Xerri, all stood up in the last quarter - the future!!

McKercher v. Reid - who would you rather have?

MacDonald - some of the usual throw the remote stuff, but body on the line for the whole game.

And Zurhaar - clutch when it counted!!

I thought Clarkson made a good point in his presser which I agree with. They missed some very gettable shots, but we also blew a number of excellent scoring opportunities. The difference is we blew our opportunities before we got to a shot on goal, rather than failing to convert. So we left a few on the table as well, particularly in transition.
