Have to agree with this.OK - I'm a little cooler now Here are a couple of thoughts.
I'm a little more relaxed today, but not happy.
- I reckon Dogs outdo the Cats for cheating for frees. Something has to be done about the cheats who throw themselves about as soon as there is the lightest touch. Our game will end up like soccer if we allow this to continue.
- We were competitive I suppose for 3 of the quarters. Take away our first quarter debacle and we lose by 23 points - not unrealistic given doggies current position compared to ours.
- Zuurhar and Thomas are big outs for us - add to that Cunners and I reckon our performance was better than I first thought.
- I am not sold on X - I know that upsets some on here but still not convinced especially when we are wasting Goldy.
- Curtis Taylor keeps improving - keep it up - I have strong faith in him.
- Eddie Ford showed a bit - enough to have confidence in his future.
- Watched a bit of the twos - Comben, Curtis looked excellent.
- Our backline is a massive issue. Lacks quality and size - not sure if there is any quick fixes.
On the topic of cheating for frees, which the dogs have done with ultimate success for several years, at least there was a call out yesterday naming weightman as a diver. I'm betting he's been like that since he was a young kid. Nobody doubts his skills or even his tenacity, but touch him and the head and arms go back like he was shot from behind by a howitzer. He could be a respected player if he didn't do that kind of thing. Another thing that is really apparent with the dogs is that they hold the ball very loosly when they get a free or take a mark so that any slight contact is apt to make the ball fall free so they might claim a 50. It didn't come off with too much success yesterday but it seemed to be part of the bevo bag of tricks to cheat for advantage.
Geelong and WCE are equally adept at the cheating and Sydney have a few as well. In my opinion, the MRC should review every match and issue fines for first offence and an automatic one week suspension for second and every subsequent offence. Penalties double if players continue the practice within three matches of recieving a fine or suspension.
