Finished my xmas shopping today and thought since it was only 1pm I might as well go and see a movie. Hadn't heard about this one but it was starting when I went in there so I though "why not".

Damn person that sold the ticket didn't mention it was one of those 3d movies (I've never seen one in 3d before) and I didn't get any glasses. About 3 minutes into the movie I was thinking... "WTF is wrong with the screen?" and looked around and everyone's wearing sunnies :p

Anyway apart from the annoying occasional blurring it was ok. Graphics looked great, but the story was a little... meh. Pretty much based on the story of the wild west, colonization of North America and the Native Americans.

It was ok. Visually great (probably better with sunnies) Story was ok, although there were plenty of wince moments and holes, especially when it came to the military aspect of things.

I'd say 6/10 pretty good overall.

Just saw it yesterday the special effects were amazing, the film was quite good.It probably should've had about 30 minitues less because their were some bits that just got boring.

Went to the movie with no expectations, had missed most of the hype.

Honestly, one of the worst films i've ever seen. Cliched storyline, boring characters and cringworthy dialogue.

Compare it to something like District 9, which was made for a good $270 million less and you'll understand why I thought so lowly of it.

Better than Commando.

I was rooting for the humans and it was becuase of him. What a ****ing hero!

The guy puts his body on the line for the human race and no one sees fit to mention it?

If Matrix was here, he'd laugh too.

Just saw it. Agreed with apollo creed about Stephen Lang, he was awesome. The Na'vi bloke who took over as leader was cool, especially during the final battle. But overall the characters were fairly weak. The dialogue was at times horrible and it was extremely predictable. But it's definitely not bad. It was amazingly beautiful to look at, even if it took a while to get used to 3D.

I thought it was fantastic, best movie I have seen in years. This might just be me but I reckon the whole movie is a subliminal message being: The indigenous people being (africans-look a lot like them) with their land full of untobium(uranium etc) or whatever it was called being taken over by money hungry companies( BHP, RIO) looking for resources. It jus reminded me of companies I was looking to invest in, looking for uranium in Nambia and I feel a bit guilty now. :(

Some other random points

-thoroughly enjoy rodriguez in 3d but is there any movie where she isn't driving a vehicle wearing ray bans and playing that hardcore tom-boy role.

- I am certain that the army guy was Major chip hazard in real life

- I liked that main girl character a bit too much and checked to see who she was in real life and was dissapointed.

That's what she is like in real life though? She wouldn't be convincing as a girly girl. Her roles in F & F, S.W.A.T, etc. suit her.

Guess the $400mil budget is justified then.

Will end up grossing an absolute buttload throughout it's running time and then onto Blu-Ray and DVD sales.

What do you expect $2, $3, $4, $5 billion?

nah, over 3 billion is unrealistic (maybe around 2 billion altogether if you you count everything dvd/bluray, tv syndication etc)

in terms of movie box office gross....... it is on track to take over the number 2 spot from Return of the King (1.1 billion)

Titanic is mt everest though..... too early to tell if it'll even get close to that..... (1.8 billion)

Titanic had amazing legs...... it was number 1 for months

but Avatar has something going for it...... increased ticket revenue from IMAX and 3d cinema. It is going to run for weeks unchallenged from competitors in that arena.
 
This movie was amazing..absolutely immersed in it and it delivered 10 fold. One of the best movies i have ever seen. An emotional and satisfying epic that will make a killing in DVD/Blu-Ray sales.

Just saw it at imax 3D. Visually stunning but weak plot, poor dialogue, and longer than it needed to be. Certainly elements of Last Samurai and Braveheart in it.
I didn't think Worthy was anything special, quite bland and stone faced in a lot of the scenes without any presence. Good luck to him though, hope it lands him better roles.
