Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

I've heard it's overly earnest to the point of cheesiness and the political themes are layered on way too thickly. I'll see it but I'm not expecting too much.

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

Worthington keeps going with his blokey Aussie accent in my opinion.

Fantastic film, it always had you interested, fantastic visual effect, really adds to the quality of the film.

If you are going to see it, see it in 3D.

9.5/10 for me.

As another poster said, it's the start of big things for Sam Worthington.

Great movie. So ****en epic.

The CGI was absolutely phenomenal to the point that there's only a few moments where you actually think that's CGI, all other bits are as if you're looking at real beings and creatures.

Sam Worthington was brilliant, he's very unique, still remains an Aussie under the American accent.

The attention to detail on everything was awesome. You can really tell this is a long held vision finally being put to screen.

James Cameron has added yet another classic to his repertoire. Brilliant.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

How's the accent? I can't stand it when actors slip in and out of accents.
He's a little up and down, still certainly learning the craft of the accent.

His Aussie accent is one of the strongest I've seen from an Aussie actor trying an American accent on.

He goes from American to Aussie to sometimes even sounding Irish as well (right at the end I thought that).

But his acting skills are not to be denied.

Meh. This board was raving about Batman not so long ago, with people making similar 'OMFG Epic! The best movie ever' comments then as they are now.

I will go along with low expectations.

It is 2154.....

an "australian" accent may well be an "american" accent by then :3

Good thing that you do IMO, but I've just come from seeing it and all I can say is wow.

Probably the most amazing visual movie I've ever seen, it alone makes the movie worth seeing, the scenery of Pandora really is dreamlike.

Worthington was very good, probably mentioned but from a lot of angles he looks exactly the same as Mischa collins (Castiel from Supernatural), and when he doesn't he is a Ben Cousins clone.

Big lol ensued at the giant robot knife.

Doubt I'd be alone when I say I'd also choose Pandora over anything this life can offer.

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

I was blown away, both by the film itself and the beautiful 3D.
It was easily the most visually stunning film i've ever seen and the story was good enough to keep up with the visuals.

I've never been one to buy into these big, action/disaster/drama epics that people like James Cameron make but after seeing the trailer i was intrigued.

I was a big fan of Sam Worthington back in the days of Gettin' Square, Thunderstruck and Dirty Deeds and whilst he was good in the film, his accent did annoy me.
I assume he was playing an American, but he certainly sounded more like an Aussie than anything else.

Stephen Lang and Gio Ribisi stole the show for me (not the first time i've said that about Ribisi, either).

I'm definitely going to see it again in 3D, if only because there's so much to take in that i was bound to miss stuff the first time around.

I've got poor site in one eye, it can read maybe the first 2 lines on the eye chart. So I don't triangulate, so I can't really see this movie in 3D and enjoy it.

Will 2D make it much less enjoyable?

Personally I wouldn't think so. The 3D is more about immersion and bringing you into the world a bit better. It also purveys the real dream like world a bit better than I would assume in 2D. You'll still be able to enjoy the amazing CGI and still find yourself immersed in the world in 2D.

3D would be the better option, but I wouldn't really think that 2D will take you out all that much more.

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

Finished my xmas shopping today and thought since it was only 1pm I might as well go and see a movie. Hadn't heard about this one but it was starting when I went in there so I though "why not".

Damn person that sold the ticket didn't mention it was one of those 3d movies (I've never seen one in 3d before) and I didn't get any glasses. About 3 minutes into the movie I was thinking... "WTF is wrong with the screen?" and looked around and everyone's wearing sunnies :p

Anyway apart from the annoying occasional blurring it was ok. Graphics looked great, but the story was a little... meh. Pretty much based on the story of the wild west, colonization of North America and the Native Americans.

It was ok. Visually great (probably better with sunnies) Story was ok, although there were plenty of wince moments and holes, especially when it came to the military aspect of things.

I'd say 6/10 pretty good overall.

You are not alone my friend, you are not alone. That movie was amazing. Best 20 bucks i'll spend in a long, long time.

To the above poster maybe if you had gotten the glasses, and not suffered from the nausea and headaches that blur will give you (all 3 hours of it, big movie) then I reckon you'd find it's at least an 8.5.

That was as solid as about anything you can expect.

bwahahaha, awesome, you watched the 3d version without glasses? I guess you've answered Harrytiger's question

you should have gone to the counter and asked for glasses...... you're paying a 3 or 4 buck surcharge for the 3d version...... and you get to keep them (they look pretty dorky anyways)

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

I guess if a two eyed person can watch it with no glasses then a one eyed person can watch it with glasses (or an ocular).

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

I have some faith in Jim Cameron being able to tell a great story along with great special effects (T2, Aliens). Even his 'lesser' efforts are solid 3.5-4 star films (Abyss, Titanic).

He's had this one on the boil for so long, you'd think the guy would be likely to produce something impressive.

It does look like a cartoon btw..

I take back that last statement (made upon the release of the teaser trailer). Visually it's like nothing I've ever seen. I encourage any cynics out there to go and see this film, if not just for the world they have created. The story is simple but told with great pacing and because of the level of detail presented I found it easy to invest in the storyline.

If 'Clash of the Titans' is a hit, Sam Worthington could be our biggest ever star.

Re: "AVATAR" - the new James Cameron movie to come out in 2009

Most amazing film I've ever seen. I walked out disappointed the ride was over! I cannot recall ever being so angry at a movie character before... That general/colonel whatever is an arse!

Ps.. Is it wrong to lust over a ten foot blue chick?
