They are releasing Avatar: The Last Airbender movie this year and it looks interesting.
I know that, but it has absolutely nothing to do with James Cameron's Avatar

I went and saw Avatar on Wednesday, and I thought it was fantastic...20 minutes in, I knew what was going to happen throughout the film, but that didn't matter...

From probably a half hour in, till about the 2 hour mark, I was completely caught up in this world that Cameron had created... The last hour was inevitable, however the previous 90 minutes was so amazing, you felt such a connection with this world and its people, that it didn't bother me I knew how the story was playing out...

I've never been one to get overly excited about special effects in movies, however in Avatar, the effects are essential for this film, as it's all about creating the connection between the viewer and the world on the screen. The connection is so strong in this film, that for mine it makes any weakness in the plot irrelevant, as you just come to care about what is going to happen so much.

Oh, and it made me go back and watch the episode of South Park "Dancing with smurfs"

gave that episode some needed background...

Taking it to a whole new level.

I can almost understand Trekkies, Klingon-speakers, those who dress up as imperial stormtroopers (Star Wars) and people who claim Jedi as a religion.

As for people who paint their skin blue and claim to be Na'vi, I'm not so sure.

These dudes are taking the piss I think...or they are the biggest nerds on the planet:D

The Editing Room has their script up:

http://www.the-editing-room.com/avatar.html

SAM WORTHINGTON awakens from cryogenic sleep as the PILOT comes onto the radio.

PILOT

Alright everyone, we’re now arriving at Pandora.

SAM WORTHINGTON

Pandora? No wonder I keep hearing the same twenty songs over and over again.

SAM exits his tiny cryogenic tube and stretches his legs.

SAM WORTHINGTON (V.O.)

Air travel has been pretty restrictive since the Christmas underwear bomber. Anyway, it’s 2149 and I’m about to continue my dead brother’s work to help Giovanni Ribisi make enough money to buy some new vowels for his last name. Oh, and I’ll be occasionally dropping some voiceover exposition, because what would lazy storytelling be without voiceover?

What a massive rip off of Pocahontas. Surprised more hasn't been said about the similarities.

Pocahontas (PH) - English search indigenous land for valuable mineral.
Main charachter in PH is John Smith same initials as J Scully. Falls in love with Chief's daughter who is already to marry main tribal warrior.

Captain of ship in PH at first puts his faith in JS and then turns on him when JS turns and helps natives.

PH even talks about how all the plants, animals etc are all one and interconnected blah blah blah. JS comes to realise this with girl's help.
Girl in PH even has/talks to her "tree grandmother" Ewya-type thingy r/ship.

What a blatant ripoff!!!!

This is all over the internet...

Don't read if you doon't want the plot spoiled, if it hasn't been already... You'll work the plot out 20 mins in anyways...

Yeah, I felt the same way. I expected this movie to be bad with terrible CGI but it was actually very immersive and awesome. The main story was predictable, of course, but some things weren't and it was entertaining the whole way through - despite the ridiculousness of the concept.

Saw this movie for the first time tonight after i purchased it on Blu Ray this arvo.

I was totally blown away ( add the misses and 5 yo daughter as well! ) watching this. We were all totally immersed in what was happening on the screen and this movie really makes you feel like you are there with the Navi as Sully is.

It had a mediocre and unrealistic plot yes BUT everything else in the movie made up for this with awesome effects and sound brought to life by Blu ray and surround sound. I must admit i was a skeptic regarding this film and was nearly going to hire it first instead of buy it in case i didnt like it etc but the $25 Blu Ray had me sold and boy was it the correct decision!!!!

For anyone that has not seen the movie it is a must see if you have an imagination and are able to really get into the films and see them for what they are without judging and being critical because a leaf falls from the tree the wrong way etc or the story intersects with any animation that was made decades ago.

Massive thumbs up for James Cameron on this film and i was enthralled from start to finish for the whole 260 minutes and i went into the film with some doubt after seeing trailers etc etc and reading reviews(mainly here!!)and doubted that i would really like it but i was pleasantly surprised with it and highly recommend especially on Blu Ray.

8/10.

I have now seen this movie in 3D, 2D (both at the cinemas) and also on Blu Ray, and can say I still don't rate it as a "great movie".

I compare this movie to a video game, where the graphics are stunning, but the gameplay and longevity (actual worth) of the game is quite terrible.

Everyone knew what was going to happen as soon as you figure out who the main characters are, and it was really quite boring and predictable for me.

I tried to watch in in 2D and on Blu Ray to see if I could "get the concept" behind the movie, but simply put I can't.

Will never watch it again, EVER.

I would rate the whole package a 6/10, totally over rated, great graphics and presentation, but still a little cartoonish for me in it's concept.

Next please.

All that ranting and you haven't even seen it?

The biggest geek in this whole situation is you, Sir. Keyboard Warrior.

Others just go and enjoy it for what it's worth with their mates...and then resume living their lives. Which is something you might want to look into having sometime.
You really showed me.

I guess you're one of the set who went to see Avatar at least five times so it could make the most money.

This was a good time killer on DVD when there's nothing on TV, but I won't pay to see it again.

This film does not deserve to have the highest box office of all time.

I broke up when I saw all the blue people singing in a trance and swaying from side to side like religious nutters.

Apart from that sexy alien giant, Colonel Quaritch is my hero and the best character in the move.

Quaritch landing in the walker after his ship blew was the best scene in the film.

I thought I was watching Ewoks attack the Empire's walkers at the end.

George Lucas probably choked on his popcorn when he watched that scene.

They can fly through space and make avatars, yet their weapons of mass destruction are daisy cutters and air to surface missiles to destroy a tree.

LOL

Cameron r*ped every other science fiction flick and film to write this script.

Apocalypto is the not safe for the general public version of avatar...

6/10

Not a patch on District 9.

PS. I'd still do Sigourney.

JB are flogging copies of the DVD for free if you spend over $100.

definitely not taking them up on it though.

I'd already seen it at the cinema so when my housemates watched it the other night on DVD I didn't bother and went into another room to watch some sport.

I thought it was a magnificent experience marvelling at the special effects and scenery in 3D at the cinema... but I had exactly zero interest in re-watching the storyline in normal viewing on a standard tv.

For me that pretty much sums up the movie in a nutshell.

this... A good gimmick in 3D. But I have 0 interest in old school style.

Like George Lucas is the master of sci fi? You're ****ing kidding me aint ya?

Lucas stole everything he did in star wars from the most basic of basic storylines.

Star Wars was and is the most unoriginal and most mundane of films Ive ever seen.

Star Wars aint Sci-Fi. Star Wars is Wizard of Oz, but at least that was original in its time.

Star Wars offers nothing and George Lucas is a pirate.
