I'd already seen it at the cinema so when my housemates watched it the other night on DVD I didn't bother and went into another room to watch some sport.

I thought it was a magnificent experience marvelling at the special effects and scenery in 3D at the cinema... but I had exactly zero interest in re-watching the storyline in normal viewing on a standard tv.

For me that pretty much sums up the movie in a nutshell.

pretty spot on esti

ill watch on blu ray for the show, but no rush

I watched it for the first time last night. I thought it was awesome especially the final battle scene at the end. Definitely worth the hype:thumbsu:

LOL

what is your favourite sci fi, star trek insurrection or something

Star Trek? nah man not my scene at all.

But seeing you asked Ill supply you with some of my favorites, in no particular order...

2001: A Space Odyssey
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Matrix
Planet of The Apes(The original)
12 Monkeys
Dune(The book would have to be in my top5 of Sci Fi... the other 4 spots are filled by Isaac Asimov, including the Foundation trilogy)
Gattica
Donnie Darko
The Time Machine(again the original)
The Fly
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Contact
Close Encounters of the Third Kind

And Id be missing quite a few.

Finally watched it this week. Its better than I thought it would be, but not as awesome as others have made it out to be.

Never saw it on the big screen but got to see it on Blu-Ray last week. I found it visually spectacular - it reminded me of Roraima Tepui in Venezuela with the "floating mountains". The storyline was ok for a Hollywood production and the science behind the "avatar project" was interesting.

One of my favourite movies, great visuals and the storyline is very good and makes sense. The idea of the 'link' between humans and the indigenous is genius. Overall rating, 9.5/10

I would like to rate it 9/10 also, but my conscience and good taste won't let me.

Decent enough movie. Brilliant visuals, hackneyed plot. I'd give it 6 or 7. The Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves of our time.

Finally got around to seeing it. Beautifully shot and toally amazing visuals.

That impressed me for about half an hour, then the sub standard dialogue, nil character development and average plot kicked in. I was really bored to be honest.

I read on here where some people have said Dances With Wolves in space. Dances with Wolves was a brilliant piece of film making, from writing, cinematography, acting..... everything. Avatar wasn't.

I see what they are saying in general plot points.

* Starts off as an enemy
* Gradually learns about the natives
* Falls for a native girl
* Realises his own people are the aggressors
* Fights on the side of his former enemy

I think they call Avatar 'Dances with wolves in space' as more of a put down about being unoriginal, more than comparing it to a cinematic masterpiece.

I get the idea. I would just hate people that have not seen the original to get the wrong impression !!!!

I thought she was pretty sexy actually.

I would totally tap that blue ass, tail and all.

I suppose she's hot, yeah, but they have sex with their ponytails and if I banged her I'd feel all weird about it. Also, they fell in love during a hunting montage. One minute it was 'Neytiri thinks I'm a ******,' and the next minute it was 'OMFG, I love her & I'll betray all my army buddies for her!' James Cameron is great at world-building, but he sucks at storytelling.

But, as I said earlier, perhaps the extended edition will make their relationship more believable.

I refused to see this overhyped monolith to James Cameron's w***ery at the cinema. I have now just seen it on Showtime and I must say I was completely underwhelmed.

Sure, it's pretty and everything but the story is pure Cameron "Save the Planet" drivel that he has thrown at us before in things like T2 and Abyss.

I must say though that the final battle scene, however over the top it is, is very well done.

For the money and the hype and the overall hoopla around it, it just doesn't cut it in my book.

You need to see it in 3D at the cinemas, just watched it again on Showtime the effects whilst still spectacular arent nearly as good as when i saw it in 3D.

The story is still solid and the movie well made, so a lot better than most of the crap that gets made.

It might not be the greatest film ever made but it is still a good piece of work.

Sorry, but that's bullshit.

It's a terrible "save the planet" story, with no actual depth to any of the characters at all.

It is the first of the shocking series of 3D movies where you have to pay twice as much at the cinemas just to get the "whole effect", because the story and the actual movie, if seen without 3D effects is basically rubbish.

And yes, I saw it in 3D, and it was visually impressive, but no more so then most of the other 3D movies on offer, but that doesn't make up for the terrible 2 hours or so that precedes the only segment of the movie that even pretends to be "memorable", the battle scene at the end.

And if I want action, I'll go watch Denzel in Unstoppable for 15 bucks in 2d (which I will be doing later this week).:)
